Was heading home from my mom's after going up to show her the new car and visit for a while. She liked the car...she's 76 now, but appreciates a nice ride. She lives up in Anacortes, Washington.

Anyways, I was headed south on Route 20 on Whidbey Island as I figured I'd enjoy the drive back on something other than the Interstate. It was about 8pm, and dark. Not a lot of traffic, but I had just passed 3 cars so I didn't have my brights on yet.

As soon as the traffic passed I saw a deer in the right 1/4 of the lane, just standing there. No oncoming traffic, and had only an instant to slalom around the deer. Car handled nice, even though the road was wet from some rain. I probably missed the deer by 6-8 inches. The deer was facing towards the side of the road and never moved.

Definately got the adrenaline going. I'm not sure I could have avoided the deer in another car like my Impala which is nowhere near as sure-footed a car.

Wow....you are very lucky! Yeah sadly deer causes a ton of deaths every year. Glad to hear you avoided the deer and I hope no one else hit it. (plus...could you imagine a Camaro in a wreck...a terrible thought indeed)

Sweet. I too have had a close one. Guy in a line of traffic pulled out in front of my as I was in the left lane that had noone in it. I had to get on the brakes and actually ended up halfway on the median there in town. I was able to straihgten it back up good so I know after putting my new suspension parts it, Ill be even better next time. This aint' your average car. lol

I'm in PA, second highest state for deer related accidents. I've hit 4 so far in my 95 Accord, missed countless more, all at night. I wish more people would hunt them. I'm glad you missed it, they can do so much damage.

In Florida, deer here are the size of dogs. Might ding a rim. Not so when I lived in Pennsylvania. In 1975 a deer killed my Beetle. Squashed like a bug! (That's all, Volks)

Always pays to have a nice handling car for defensive driving.

I live near a very country road with deer all around. Never seen them in the Camaro, but I hit one right as it was crossing the street in my Tahoe. No damage at all except for a cracked grill
Glad you and your Camaro are safe.

Do those really work? I have heard people say the deer hears the noise and runs but not necessarily away from it.
