1st oil change - Did they use Synthetic??

I got a pit in my stomach today. At 9,800 miles, I brought my 2SS into the dealer for my first (complimentary) oil change. On my way home today, i notice the windshield sticker indicated my next oil change was at 14,750 miles. I suddenly felt that perhaps they used regular oil instead of synthetic. Is there any way to tell??

WHy would you assume they used regualr instead of synthetic based on the mileage? Most dealers now use 5000 as the standard regardless of regualr or synthetic. Some just put a percentage with the new systems now as well. Look at your copy of the workorder and if it does not say call the dealer and they should be able to tell you what was usd.

Thanks guys. I had to run out before getting the work order, but they said they would mail it. I should have it tomorrow or Friday. I just expected the worst once i saw the short mileage and the fact that it was complimentary.

They automatically put Mobil 1 in the SSs just like the Vettes. Oh and my dealership puts the next change at 3k on the sticker each time.

Installed a "fumoto valve" on my diesel truck. Was able to take oil samples and have it analyzed between oil changes. Other than asking and checking the invoice, not sure how you can be certain what they used. If you like doing the changes yourself, after putting a valve on once, draining the oil is a snap. Just got to get a little dirty with the filter.

You should really learn to change your own oil. It's VERY VERY VERY VERY easy. That way you'll know for sure. It's the least that we can do for our babies.

Most places use a blend ,,, unless you are asking for premium synthetic they won't use it

I watched the first oil change and counted the quarts. Young kid loved my car and we chatted about what he wanted next for a vehicle. I think from now on, I'll have my guy help me change it..........

Use your "I'll F@&#*ng kill you face" and politely ask them if you can watch the oil change. They should, they are probably car-guys too.

Only in the 2010 owners manual are Mobil 1 and synthetic mentioned when it comes to engine oil. Nowhere in the the owners manual for the 2011 or 2012 does it say to use synthetic or Mobil 1, they only mention Dexos. As long as Dexos is used, all is good. If Dexos isn't available then anything 5w-30 is also fine as long as it has the API starburst. This is a quote right from the 2011 owners manual.
Quote:
Use of substitute engine oils if dexos is unavailable: In the event that dexos approved engine oil is not available at an oil change or for maintaining proper oil level, you may use a substitute engine oil displaying the API Starburst symbol and of SAE 5W-30 viscosity grade. Use of oils that do not meet the dexos specification, however, may result in reduced performance under certain circumstances.
For the 2012 cars the above quote is not in the owners manual. The 2012 owners manual says
Quote:
Notice: Failure to use the recommended engine oil or equivalent can result in engine damage not covered by the vehicle warranty. Check with your dealer or service provider on whether the oil is approved to the Dexos1 specification.
