Dealer accessories: trunk mat, tint, Simoniz??

I talked to my dealership's "accessory guy" today about getting the rubber trunk mat and window tint added to my car before I pick it up.

The price on the matt is fine at $104 (list price $120, GMPartsdirect $91 plus shipping).

The tint price I was quoted was a little high at $269 for their professional installer. Assuming this is a lifetime warranty, high quality tint (I need to call back and get details), is this OK? A few bucks extra for the convenience of having it done and waiting for me is worth it. I've seen guys saying they got theirs for $125 or $175, but honestly I've never locally found anyone that cheap. For having it done at pickup, this seems like an OK deal to me. Oh...35% for the back 5 windows (max legal for WA).

"While I have you one the phone, let me give you one other item to think about..." He suggested their Simoniz System5 interior/exterior protection system for $400. My first thought is, "yeah, right". But I don't know...7 year warranty added to the paint and interior carpet and leather. After all the problems I've read about with thin paint and bubbles/chips, maybe it is useful? Does it REALLY stick with the car for 7 years? I know no other WAX product does! Do any of our Camaro5 "super dealers" think this is actaully worthwile and not just a profit center for the dealer?

Thanks all!

Rob

Tinting price sounds fine.

The Simoniz I'd skip. Good luck getting that warranty to hold up. Your factory warranty is fine for the paint. This stuff isn't magic. It won't stop the 'Wear and Tear' stuff, and the warranty won't cover it either. It's a sham. The stuff may be good stuff, but the warranty is a joke at best.

$269 for 5 windows tinted is not a bad price. As for the simoniz, I don't think it's worth it. What exactly do the warranty for 7 years, and how long do you plan on keeping the car?

My dealer tried to push that $495 paint sealant and interior chemicals.
Harassed me for over an Hr till I walked out!
Its a once a yr paint sealant, they give you a new bottle every yr for you to apply.
Could get that at Walmart for $5.99!

All good advice!! The tint should be a lifetime warranty for that $ and the paint sealant is a big scam. It's a insurance policy that you are paying a huge premium on...like the rim and tire protection for 5 yrs for like $800.00. (wear, tear and accidents not covered....really, that about takes care of all problems)

Never buy a paint sealant from a dealer. You can wax the car yourself and save a ton of $$. Try Zaino.

be very leery of tire protection as well, the exceptions and exclusions are like 10 pages long. I would never buy a tire warranty again, bought one once from goodyear and they would not honor it and I didn't want to wast time with a law suit. Look, they are trying to make money on these scams, they are not "deals" for you.

Just say no to the Simoniz. It seems like every dealer pushes something like that. Kind of goes along with vehicle extended warranties...

Doesn't anyone get window tint done for free as part of the deal anymore? I know this is the Camaro, but other vehicles we have boughten we talked the dealer into throwing tint in.

Thanks everyone. I was pretty sure the Simoniz was carp, but wanted to be sure it wasn't worth it just for the warranty.

I know you can pay less for tinting, but I'm afraid that a cheap job is a CHEAP job. Locally, I have found it hard to get real feedback or references for tinters.

I can promise you that the price on that tint job is marked up through the dealer so that is a little high.
