Buying 2017 used vs. 2018 new ZL1?

Is there a point? Been looking to get a 6th gen ZL1 after going back and forth on settling for a 2SS 1LE, but the ZL1 is just so great right out of the box. Now the choice is, used 2017 or new 2018? It's getting harder to find the deals right now since the conquest cash only applies to current Mustang owners. There was a good rebate for other vehicles owners which I qualified for, but it expired on 7/31.

Is there any hidden changes or updates for 2018 that make it worth the price delta? I'm flexible on the options for the most part, but I stuck on the combination...Nightfall Gray coupe with an M6.

There's no wrong answer. Clean used one or brand spanking new are really similar. The advantage to new is obviously it's yours, no BS or questions, no flaws (Hopefully) and you get to make it your own from the first miles. That means if you want to get it PPF'ed with your choice of film, your choice of coating, your choice of aesthetic and power mods (If any), your choice of driving style, break in habits, first oil change, first diff change, etc.

All in all, money no option, I'd buy new. But I'm not afraid of a clean, low mileage, used car from a good owner.

I bought a used 2018 with 450 miles for $59k in April. I say I got a pretty good deal and love it. There are similar deals on cargurus.com

Also depends if buying a 50th anniversary car is meaningful to you or not.

I'd buy used any day if it's low miles and clean. Why take that hit when you don't have to?

I am pro-new. Mainly because a lot of people buy these cars and do not intend to keep them for a long time and so they beat the snot out of it. And then they trade it in and move on to the next one. So I'll say that if your intention is to keep the car for a long time, then get it brand new. But if you think you're gonna wanna ditch it in 2-3 years then get it used.

I've been looking at ZL1's for a year. I've always been a "buy used" guy due to depreciation plus finding one with a couple mods saves me money lol.

In the last couple of months, I had my color and options narrowed down but could NOT find the combination local and reasonably priced to save my life. Searching daily across cars.com, autotrader, cargurus, autolist, etc.

This past weekend, I put a deposit on a new 18 and its still in transport, hoping for a call at any time that I can pick it up. It was about 63 or 64k out the door, which is about what I was looking at for one used car I inquired about out of state. Funny how that works.

I look forward to dialing the car in exterior-wise right away (no mods, just detailing), but I am very much looking forward to breaking it in properly.

I think it depends on your own goals and finances. Most ZL1s in my area only have a few thousand miles on them and range from 55k+.

I looked at buying a used 2017 or 2018
The 17 I would've saved a few bucks
The used 18 made me look at new
I purchased a new 18 for $200 more than what the other dealer wanted for their used 18 and my new one had all the options I wanted.

Yes I qualified for all the rebates GM had plus the suppliers price.

Same here. Bought my 18 used with 900 miles on it in March for $58.5. It was like new.

This ^ I don't know if I could ever buy a sporty car used. You just never know how abused that car was. What if the previous owner didn't follow break in?

I have purchased plenty of used sporty cars and have had fairly good luck with all of them. The ZL1 was my first new car. Depreciation was tough to justify, but the engine, trans and chassis in the ZL1 were tougher to pass up.

I would buy new.. they list for 61,500 now vs 64,300 the last 2 years. most likely that will make a used interest rate go up enough to make the payments the same even if there is a 4 to 5k difference in price between new and used.
