I am also entitled to the supplier's discount. HOWEVER, I have had one heck of a time finding a dealer saying they will honor it. One guy was smugly honest about it and said give it A LOT of time. I told him I have more time than most because I am waiting for the convertible.
He looked at me and smirked saying and what do you think the odds are on getting the supplier's discount on that. I just looked at him and said better than the odds that this dealership will ever sell me a car. In this economy you think they would want all the positive dealership PR they can get..

Anybody know how much the military discount will be? And do these discounts (employee, supplier, grad, military, etc.) work like a rebate? Meaning say I negotiate for invoice +500 on a base LS (approx. 21500) and then get my military discount (lets say, theoretically, equal to the employee price of 20500, or -1700) my total price would be 19800 before destination? Or would it simply be 20500, the larger of the two discounts (-1700 for military vs. -700 for 500 over invoice)? Sorry, this whole discount thing confuses me, never shopped with a discount before, and I want to make sure I know what my best price will be, since it affects when (or even if!) I'll be able to order a 5th gen.

There is no haggling over the discounted prices. They are what they are. It is not a $ or % off kind of thing. It is a final $ number price. |

From what I've found, it's pretty much impossible to get a dealership to accept employee or supplier pricing until they have extra inventory sitting on the lot, and the cars are readily available.
My dad was a GMAC employee for 20 years (until he was laid off a couple of months ago), so I am able eligible get the GM employee pricing. My family has purchased 7 vehicles from the same sales manager at one of the local dealers in the past few years. The dealership was allocated 15 Camaros. Since we've ordered so many cars from him, he let me place an order for Camaro, with employee pricing. However, they got pre-orders for the rest of the allocated cars, so the dealer GM made the sales manager that I know call me back and cancel my order. The dealers still make money on employee purchases, but much less than on MSRP. I understand why they did it, but I am so bummed...... It also seems sad that the economy is so poor right now that the dealership would risk loosing a loyal customer, to make a couple of thousand extra. I've spent a ton of money at that dealer, and it seems like they make more money on repeat sales and service than a single new car. Since that time, I've called over 30 dealers in Southern California, and dealers all the way to Vegas and Phoenix. None of them are going to giveup their allocations for employee purchases. It looks like I won't be getting a car until the end of next year when they are sitting on the lot. |
