I wish I still had my 1969 GTO, which was a wonderful car in every way.
Of course, my Camaro is pretty awesome, too. Last edited by heavyt100; 12-26-2010 at 12:04 PM. |

No regrets here. I had an 05 Goat. Loved it but missed the aggressive look of musclecardom. All above mentioned opinions I agree with. Much better interior, superior seats for long hauls. Fast friggin car. Suspension is a joke though. Small tires. You would need to roll fenders to put on bigger meat. Mine started taking on water when it would rain. I was all set with rusted floorboards. I figured it was time to get out while I could. Nice low volume vehicle meant a bit more exclusivity but with that also came to many "exclusive" problems which over time add up to more $ to spend because you have to, not because you want to.

The 06 GTO was a GREAT car...I test drove it and loved it. The sound was tremendous even in an Auto...salesman started it up near the doors and it shook....BRAND new STOCK GTO with a sound like that. The accelertion was great, the display panel rocked....it lacked a nav system which I thought was silly in a 34k sticker Pontiac....I was sorry to see them drop the car..if they made improvements in say an 07 adding missing options they would have sold more...I'm still pist off at myself to this day that I didn't buy that car. but a used one when Pontiac shut down is not even a thought...but in 2006 I would have loved to own one I just couldn't decide what car...thats the problem with test driving 6-7 cars it actually makes for a tough decision.

My 04 GTO had a better quality interior and the leather seats were more comfortable. Having said that, my Camaro has features that the Goat didn't have. If Pontiac would have survived and updated the GTO (especially made in Australia) I would have bought one. But to answer the question, I had no regrets moving from the GTO to the Camaro.

My comfort ranking was: 1. GTO 2. Camaro 3. Mustang In the end I wanted a new car and the Camaro has a number of advantages over the GTO. I wonder if the GTO seats fit the Camaro? They were great. |

I have both and don't ever plan on letting that change. The GTO comfort level blows the Camaros out of the water and I can actually see when I'm driving too. But if I didn't love them both, I wouldn't have both. It's like having two girlfriends.

GTO was/is a great car at a good value. But looking too much like a high trim 96-03 grand prix killed it in my opinion.

JMO, the mundane looks of the GTO, plus the unveiling of the Camaro prototype pretty much was the swan song for the GTO. Looks have a TON to do with a vehicle for most enthusiasts. There were going to be Pontiac die-hards that would have loved it even if it DID have 4 doors to make a drab looking car look worse. But at least they started to update its image when the bottom fell out. I think it was just an experiment that didn't pan out.
I'm not knocking the car, but there was so much it was lacking in ways that cannot be described in words. It seemed like if they had marketed as anything OTHER than a GTO, more people might have been attracted to it. Who knows?

Good things come from "Down under", eh?
I owned an '05 Goat. She was hella' great; I got her tuned and did the long tubes and catless exhaust trip. Very fast.
But I loove my Camaro. The only thing I really wish the Camaro had that the GTO had was the super comfortable seat, it was the best ever. Maybe the Camaro body, etc should've been made by those Holden dudes, or blokes, in Australia. |

Thanks for all the input and opinions on my question. I have really liked the GTO and hate to part with it. The Camaro does have that gorgeous body style and has features the GTO doesn't. The GTO has a beautiful high-quality interior and those super-comfortable seats- the best I've sat in in any car. And mine has the red leather, which really pops. It's plenty fast for me and rides and drives well, and has been virtually trouble-free. So I'm on the fence. Keeping the GTO and not having monthly car payments may not be a bad idea.

I loved my GTO and there are many things I like more about the GTO than the camaro... interior, leather, visibility, driver position and the stealth factor (everyone thought it was a grand am or something then i would put sideways around a corner and people would wonder what the hell is that?) and yes i miss it dearly but the camaro is a far better looking car and better. The GTO is a great car and I am hoping to buy another one someday to park next to my camaro

Of course their will be be. All the kiddies that bought GTO's wrecked most of them. On the GTO boards everyother day was a post of teens or unskilled driver who never owned a sports car wrecking them.
