Hit up LS1tech and pick up some used 243 heads (stock were 241 cast heads) and go with springs/rockers along with your pushrods.
If you haven't now, might as well start converting the top end to a 01+ LS6 style setup. Maybe a mild cam? |

You might even want to consider some ported 5.3 truck heads. Patriot Performance used to be a big name for those, but I don't know if they're still in the game.

Yea 243's are a solid choice, and I remember 5.3 heads being popular but I never did much research on those.

You can see my thread for the risk of buying used heads. Gotta make sure they are package right if you are having them shipped, and request insurance on the shipping.
If you plan on doing a cam swap, springs are a must. There's a lot of choices out there, I'd call whoever you plan on buy the cam from and ask what spring they recommend. Stock rockers are fine for mild cams. I kept the stock valves in my LS6 heads and got a nice post job done on them.

Do you have a link for that thread? The car has alot of miles so I think that even without a cam swap i still would want new springs, are the stock rockers pretty decent or a weak point?

That's not that impressive. I've seen better with P/P stock heads and the car was a daily driver.
