Issues with high lift cams???
Now I know that this article http://www.gmhightechperformance.com...ade/index.html is on a LS1 motor but just wanted other peoples inputs on the stock rocker arms for the LS3 and if I would have these issues with damaging the valve guides and what not? I was told if I put the Comp Cam's Trunion Upgrade Package that it would get rid of this issue? Any input is welcome.
Thx |

With high lift Cams the valve guides do wear out.Ussually staying under .580lift will give no wear. Hard to say how long the guides take to wear enough to smoke all the time.I've had people run 50k miles with no smoke at all but the guides are beat pretty good.

I have been running a high lift cam, .641 and .628 in my Trailblazer SS for two years now using factory rockers. Motor is a 440 C.I. We are using shorter push rods to match the slighty milled head surface to maintain proper geometry. No problems at all. It is my daily driver as well. Factory rockers are better that many think. If I felt I needed to improve rockers I would definetely do the trunion upgrade before I would purchase a full set of roller rockers. Good Luck

The comp cams kit is awesome and lots of engines ship with that setup. That being said they are by no means mandatory. I'm running stock rockers just like thousands of other customers with no issues. I'm currently running 650 lift, but I've run near 700 lift with the stock rockers in testing.
The comp cams kit is a great product if you dont mind spending a little extra $$ then I say go for it. If your on a budget then run the stock rockers unmodified. I bet only 1 or 2 of the cam'd cars on this site even have upgraded rockers.... |
