Worst Baseline DYNO EVER?
So Im beginning the early stages of my build today, dropped of my car to get headers installed and full e85 tune. Need less to say my heart was broken. Are these numbers accurate? after the runs my guy tells me I was getting some knock in 4th gear(A8) at about 6500-6600rpm which may have contributed to the lower HP number but damn, his DYNO runs on the low side with about a 25% loss which is what he told me. So my question still needs an answer. IS this the worst baseline ever??
OCT 3/2018 Update 1: Vehicle had baseline DYNO, My heart was broken soon after. OCT 4/2018 Update 2: Vehicle got a baseline (free) the day before. Headers (ARH) will be installed today by same shop, and will be put on the same exact DYNO afterwords. Total modifications for this vehicle will be Headers, E85 flex kit/ tune, and K&N air filter(stock box is just fine for now). Vehicle should be going back on DYNO tomorrow after Headers get put on unless something happens. Currently working on getting Ryne at CMS to do remote Tune OCT 5/2018 Update 3: Vehicle is back in my possession as we speak, so after speaking to shop, shop did mention to me that they ran it on gear 4 on accident, so on the updated DYNO sheet we have pulls on 4th and 5th gear. RYNE at CMS did a wonderful job with the Tune and Josh at JEP Autoworks did a phenomenal job as well with the install. Turns out that when when motor blew up at 800 miles, the people(s) *Cough Cough GM* who put it back together did a half ass job, o2 sensor seized up, bolts on headers were stripped, just a overall nightmare. Car runs like a champ right now. pretty impressive gains especially the torque BEFORE AFTER Last edited by Cupcake37; 10-05-2018 at 11:13 PM. Reason: Update |

Cupcake, your profile says "2015 Camaro 6A 2LT RS" so what exactly are we looking at here?

Worst Baseline DYNO EVER?
OP has a 2017 1SS
800 miles on the ODO when purchased midway through 2017. By last month it had 58K miles (OP is a road warrior). Previous posts indicate that there have been issues from the failing alternator and transmission shudder in 2017 to the persistent check engine light in September 2018 caused by engine knocking and excessive oil consumption. If the knocking is unresolved the ECU could be pulling timing and could be the rationale for the lower than normal baseline dyno combined with the terribad California gas. If the persistent engine knocking and excessive oil consumption issues aren’t resolved, these dyno results will be the least of your concerns. First off, fourth gear is not the correct gear for a dyno pull.

Need to make the pull in 6th gear, not 4th.
I would personally take the car elsewhere.... picking the right gear is pretty basic dyno operator stuff. As far as the dyno numbers go, it's a good start. Keep in mind that you car still makes the same exact SAE rated horsepower as any other 6th gen ss. These huge variances in dyno numbers that we find are just the difference in dynos, not the difference in cars. Just dont use this as a baseline, then go off and do bolt ons, and the go to a other dyno to get your final numbers. It's going to look like you picked up 140 rwhp with bolt ons. Lol

Gear ratio in trans does not matter. 1:1 in trans.. but 3.xx:1 in the rear. it will never be 1:1. Any dyno operator should know how to get accurate RPM so graph plots correctly, rest is math dyno software can do. No need to go 205 mph on the dyno.. Since this is likely inertia dyno, you just need to make sure spool up time is enough to get good read, ie sufficient data points. Too low a gear and revs fly by, not good for data acquisition.
High hp cars benefit from load dyno vs inertia for good data collection.

If you are worried about larger numbers, dyno is 6th. If you are worried more about if the mods make a difference, just make sure all runs done on the dyno before or after are done in the same gear.

My apologies woke up this morning laughing my ass off, yes vehicle is a 1SS A8, oil consumption was resolved. As for the knock it is being caused by the terrible quality gas here in SO Cal.

Well based on your comments about the 25% loss.... 333.7 + 25% = 417HP which is about right what all others makes (depends on dyno).... this could be the greediest dyno ever, definitely. However, dyno #'s are just measurement tool not an indicator of how much power the car actually makes... at least i don't view it that way.
Just make sure once the car is tuned take it back to the same dyno and compare gains on THAT SAME DYNO. Otherwise you just lost your time and money. Also note that A8's must be dyno'ed on 6th gear sinces thats its 1:1 gear, however i wouldnt recommend all the pulls on 6th. Most people do there tunes on 5th gear and onces the car is dailed in then 1 last pull in 6th gear to see more "realistic" numbers. However that will always be different in every dyno. Dont sweat it. PRAY just had a car that put down 423HP on a dyno and ran 10.9 on the 1/4 Dyno numbers mean nothing. Onces you get your car back go to the same dyno and post results.

I believe someone ran the numbers and the general consensus is that the A8 is ~17% edit: You also did your math wrong.... drivetrain takes away power... it does not add it... so it's not: 333.7 rwhp x 1.25 = 417.125 bhp , but it would be 333.7rwhp / .75 = 444.9333 bhp

I'm surprised we made it this far without anyone asking what brand of dyno, and what do other stock Gen V LT1's put down on that dyno?

Max power at 5200 rpm indicates an issue... should be 6k. Either the dyno or the car has an issue.
It could simply be the crappy CA gas. I'd try mixing in some 99 to bring it to 93+ and see what happens. It may require some driving with the new gas blend for the ecu to relearn. |

That looks like the same dyno that I got owned on. Its a Dynocom dyno, from what I can tell. They're load bearing dyno's and unless he set the load percentage correctly for a RWD car (assuming that the dyno is an AWD dyno), it's going to have some really rough numbers. The correction factor on that dyno should be at 1.04, not 1.11/1.10.
On my runs, the first pull was set for an AWD load and I ended up putting down some abysmal numbers. He changed the settings to be dialed in for a RWD car. Also, you were put in the wrong gear. 5th or 6th gear would have been more appropriate for an accurate dyno run. I would think that with a proper run, even on those dyno's, you'd probably be around 370-390 as a baseline on there. No matter what, the numbers are going to be lower than every other dyno other than a Mustang dyno. It's just the nature of the beast. I attached my sheet as an example.

Cupcake37 (love the name!), install one of our E2-X systems and watch how much the KR is reduced. Directly related to power.
