Rear Differential Convert to a posi trac

Has anyone converter the factory limited slip differential to a limited posi trac with Eaton Detriot posi truetrac differential? If so do you have step by step installation. Thank you

I did....download the instructions and follow them, then set up just like a ring pinion install.

It's going to be the same as any other diff swap or gear swap. You will have to have the know how and tools to measure and set it up. I think it's common on these to also need a case spreader.

A case spreader is highly recommended, I didn't have one when I did mine and wish I did lucky I was able to get mine set with only having to pull it back out once. I also recommend getting a beam type torque wrench to set pinion preload. I replaced all of the bearings and seals and don't forget indicator to check backlash.

I tried, and failed, but I was also adding 3.91 gears. Lost patience with taking the diff back out to get the spacing and depth correct. Ended up, just buying a built unit from JRE. Not the cheapest option, but I know it's well built and will last. As a bonus I upgraded from 3.91 to 4.11 gears. Something to consider if you are not experienced with setting up gears. I've done a few on 4th Gens and they were MUCH easier.

GM uses crush sleeves in a ton of diffs. I take it you have seen a lot of failures? I know it makes me not want to mess with a diff that is not leaking bad or making noise. Where do you even get the correct spacers to use in place of the crush sleeve?

it's proven that the crush sleeve moves on high torque applications, once it moves your bearing preload changes as well as your pinion depth which effects your ring backlash.
ask your gear manufacturer of choice for a solid pinion spacer or a crush sleeve eliminator for your diff. they are common items.

I repair CNC machines and process automation systems for a living, haven't worked on a ton of diffs but I have seen my share of gear boxes and the gear boxes that use crush sleeves on our machines have to be changed to solid spacers or accurate consistency will not be met....talking +/- .0002" accuracy. sure it's not a car but the same principles apply. mechanical accuracy=max strength, long life with minimal failures.

Thanks Bottle. Hopefully they make them for the ZL1 diff.

Honestly I'm not sure. You'd have to contact JRE and ask. That said, I don't have a ton of HP/TQ in my car so I can't give an opinion there. BUT after a few miles w/ the 4.11 and TruTrack diff, I love this setup.
