Jay Leno - Enemy of Late Night

Is anybody else on Camaro5 pissed off about what NBC and Jay Leno have done to Conan O'Brien? I think Jay Leno is despicable and what he did was reprehensible to not just walk away from "The Tonight Show" as he originally did when he "retired" from Late Night TV for about 30 seconds. Conan O'Brien is a much better personality anyway. Why does Jay need the Tonight Show back anyway? He's already done it. His time is over. Time to move on. Yet, he doesn't listen.

I don't care what kind of car aficionado Jay Leno thinks he is, it doesn't excuse him the responsibility of being a respectful human being. I hope a gigantic tree falls on his car collection and his return to "The Tonight Show" is a complete disaster. I'll tell you, I really can't stand this guy anymore. Makes me sick. Can't wait for Conan's return to Late Night TV on a different network!

I totally agree with you. Jay's time was over, he retired and should find something else to do. It was time to hand the torch to the next person. The mistake he made was to try and do an earlier show. Of course that was not going to cut it. Late night shows are suppose to be late, not at prime time.

For NBC to hire Conan, give him a contract and then go back to Jay because of poor ratings was a bad judgement. They will end up with worse ratings from all of this.

As much as I want to not like him for all this, I doubt that 100% of this was his decision. If he could have left quietly and leave Conan in place, he probably would have. But NBC executives know that Leno is a money maker at the 11:30 time slot and wanted to bank on him again so they put out an offer he couldn't refuse. So the real enemy here are NBC top dogs that only have $$$ on their brains and not the interest of their hosts or their viewers.

At least Conan did the right thing and did not request Late Night back, he's leaving it with Jimmy Fallon.

Jay Leno didn't do anything. He never retired. The Tonight Show was taken from him, and now NBC has given it back because Conan lost 60% of Jay's viewers. Jay had no say in the matter.

The Tonight Show was not taken from him. Back in 2004, Leno agreed to "retire" from The Tonight Show and hand it over to Conan in 2009. Which is what happened. Leno stayed on NBC with his prime time show. After both The Jay Leno Show and The Tonight Show starting tanking in ratings, NBC execs decided to put Leno back on The Tonight Show and give Conan the axe. Leno could have said no, but I'm sure the deal was too lucrative for him to pass up.

The Execs walked into Leno's office one day and said you are out in four years, and then they wanted him back after Conan failed. It is all about the money friends.

Conan never failed. He had only 7 months to establish the Show; Jay Leno agreed to "retire," and Conan's ratings were suffering because Jay Leno's show was such an utter failure.

To be fair though, I feel that Conan tamed his humor for the The Tonight Show - he was so much crazier and inventive on Late Night, and this is why he lost viewers. However, he brought back much of that "old Conan" for his last 5 shows and they were probably the best late night shows I have ever seen.

For now, I'm boycotting NBC for at least a little while. Conan basically got laid off in the media spotlight - something that's already embarrassing enough to have publicized. This is NBC's fault, not Leno's.
