HUGE upgrade!

Believe all of us past 4th Gen owners. You will NOT be let down!

Just take care of her and she'll treat you right for many, many, many years to come.

I would look on autotrader.com and the classifides section on ls1tech.com.

As far as good cars, I would say they are one of the best bang for the buck cars out there. I've had two 4th gens, a 98 Z28 and now have my 2002 SS. Also, both have been up there in miles (I bought the Z with 85k and the SS with 91k and have 99k on the SS currently.) That being said you'll only see minor problems as you would with any used car. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a used LS1 if I was you or your dad. Also, if you can I would try to find a 01-02 as they already have LS6 intakes and consistently put down higher hp numbers on the dyno.

You asked about gas mileage too... With my automatic I will get like 17 to 18 with mixed driving, mostly city but I got like almost 23 with 90% highway a couple weekends ago. With a six speed you'll see better numbers, into the upper 20's.

Also, you'll find that SS's are the better models from 96-02 but there isn't a huge difference, mainly apperance things as the SS's have a different hood, spoiler, wheels, and some smaller performance upgrades from SLP. If you're looking for a cheaper one a Z will be a better buy as they are just as fast, but I love the SS's. Sorry if you already knew that stuff, just thought I'd help out. If you have any other questions just ask.

Good luck finding one and let us know what you get.

Yeah, that's what I hear. Once this motor goes, I'll just swap it out for a used one or just build a motor with a 6 speed. I love LS1's.

These cars are selling all over the place. I would say autotrader and craigs list are your best bet. Dont be afraid to travel for a good buy. If I were you I would up your dollar to around 8 or 9k for a lil lower mileage. For that price I would say you should find a clean one with around 50-80k. You will find several with over 80k that are asking over $10k which is way over priced. Ive seen them for 13k with 27k miles.

Like I said search the market and do some research. Autotrader and craigs list. Forums are a decent place to find a good buy as well. A car that has been modded most likely has been ran pretty hard as well so take that into consideration. Try www.ls1tech.com. Ive been searching that site for years and there are always decent buys on there.

good luck!!!

ebay has quite a few, but if you like the 4th gens, get an ss, a little more hp than a base, and truely fun and reliable to drive 125k on my red devil

I got my 2000 SS for $4k, needed some work but she runs good and I drive her everyday. Having a blast fixing her up and they are fairly easy to work on
