It has been done and documented, no slicks. For instance:

I round and thats an 8.3... also I HIGHLY doubt the tires were the factory ones especially since this run happened in 2009

but yea, I know we get in the 12s all the time in stock form

Well, well I stand corrected. But I'd have to say that thing had slicks on it, an excellent track prep.

Once I looked Sam up, I remember the car and the articles about the suspension upgrades. Very interesting stuff. Looks like a great combination.

Ya gotta give Sam a lot of credit though, too. To be an SCCA Solo Champion takes more than just a good setup on the car. He obviously has finely honed driving skills too.

I used to run in Solo II back in the mid-70's and early 80's with my '74 Z28. It's great fun. I had not done much of that kind of thing over the years in between until last June when I drove the '02 HRE on the Track Day portion of the Motorstate Challenge. What a blast!!! Way more fun than drag racing, in my opinion.

Someone said that the owner said it was stock, but I'm highly doubting it.

The last anniversary camaro was the 2002 35th . I have a 30th anniversary SS which is a 1997 purchased new in 1997 . Love this vehicle . Mine ran a little over 11 in the quarter but was a 94 degree day .Not best for performance . Mine has a Vortech S trim supercharger system with 3.73 rear . I dont beat on it much still has only 17K miles .

Found one
Not sure what it commemorates, but here are some possibilities from a quick google of "40th anniversary 2013", nothing autosport related:
Kentucky Fried Chicken
Bad Company
The Rocky Horror Picture Show on stage in London
Organization of Women Architects
Roe vs. Wade
Playgirl Magazine

EDIT: found it, 40th anniversary of the Canadian International Autoshow

Technically speaking all 2002 Camaro's were 35th anniversary cars, a 35th anniversary SS isn't the standard FBody. You could get options through SLP, not as much as Berger or GMMG but still better than a plain Z28.
