Steering Power Assist Mod??
Anyone know if there is a way to tweak the Power Steering Boost? The Camaro is way overboosted at speed, in my opinion.

I thought it was just me...It's almost like it works backwards. It should provide the most assist at low speeds and be less assist at higher speeds. It almost seems kind of dangerous how easy it is to steer at high speeds...My 2002 WS6 had great steering.

It is dangerous at high speed. When I get over 90, it's loopy. Someone did something wrong. Do these cars not have variable assist??

I currently drive a 99 miata (whole diffrent car) that had a similar problem. Back when I originally purchased the car I put on larger and heavier wheels (looked great) and it did get very squirrely at speed. Felt like i had to stay totally concentrated on steering or it would want to change direction at the slightest bump/road irregularity. Once i dropped the larger rims for smaller lighter ones driving on the interstate became much less stressfull. |

Funny you say that, I had just been talking the other day with my dad about the car and he is a real gear head unklike me and I noted that the power assist seemed almost backwards on this car compared to my Grand Prix GTP where the power assist was real strong and easy to tell at low speed and felt like it went away at high speed. I have been assuming this was just one of many things in getting used to a rear wheel car again, but my ole man said it did not sound right to him, I was going to ask the dealer about it but I think I will follow this thread a little to see what folks have to say. Unlike some, mine does not seem to get too loose "at speed", over 100 (on a closed private airport runway) but in the 65-80 range to me it feels loose. I would love to see if there was a way to crank down the assist in the 35-80 range.

Just found this post. I am working on this already. I am waiting for my custom power steering control valve hoses to arrives they screwed up 2 times already on the fittings.
If my system works you can adjust feedback with a knob under the hood. This to me will truly make the Camaro a better car. I will make the post public in the Suspension section above. |

Followed up the the line company and it may arrive by Christmas which would be ideal since I will have time that weekend to wrench.
I am very anxious to see how and if this will work since I spent alot of time testing and blueprinting parts for this. Stay tuned!!!! |
