Vinyl Stripes Removal
Does anyone know of a good way to remove vinyl stripes? I had mine put on my Camaro aftermarket about 3 years ago. I don't know if the stripes were defective or just what happened but now they have a serious "crackled" effect going on. The shop that did the stripes will take them off, but at a rate of $25/hour and I'm seriously worried about this taking A LOT of hours to get off.
So does anyone know of a way to get them off? Hair dryer? Heat gun? Some kind of compound?

I used a heat gun to get mine off.. but you have to be careful when using this tool. I've heard hair dryers work too. Just get it warm and then start to peel it off. I used automotive gunk-remover to get rid of the excess glue and then did a wax over that area.

Yes, you could damage the finish if you get it too hot. I waived mine back and forth over my stickers until they became pliable to remove. I used my findernail to start to pull the edge and it came right off. A little "oops" to remove the glue residue.

You can use this same method to remove dealer stickers too if you want.

Ask the installer for an actual estimate. If it is "crackled" all over, may take a while. I work for a printer/sign shop, and have removed some nasty old vinyl, OEM syle stripes shouldn't take too long. Just my opinion.
Give it a try with the hairdryer, you can always give up and get the installer to do it.

There's no magic. Just time and patience.. no heat gun. Paint can get damaged at 200*. Heat guns can reach 1000*. A hair dryer is much safer. There are plastic scrapers to help with any residual glue left with a release agent. I used 3M one. I removed dealer installed hockey stripes on my zl1 after being there for 3 years. Took about 1 hour start to finish. I finished up with some nice wax. Never knew they were there.
