I am getting a ZL1. But.....

I have said it before, heard from car friends who can afford to wipe their a$$es with benjamins..who are in the "IN" with some SVT folks, the new GT500 will outperform the ZL1. These are the same people who "heard" from SVT about a 600+hp GT500 many months before it was announced so I have no doubt they know what's up. The base GT500 will outrun the ZL1 in any straight line race and if one wants to chase the ZL1 in a roadcourse, one will need to add the SVT-PP option. No Gas Guzzler tax is a bonus. SVT will let the car speak for itself very soon...no need for a letter to fans. People who misestimated the GT500 base MSRP didn't know what they were talking about, same with the people who misestimate what a capable roadcourse car the existing GT500 already is and the new one will even be better.

ZL1 and GT500 are worth every penny if you ask me. I'm now trying to figure out if I can swing both.

Yes, I am curious to see what time the GT500 can post at the Nurburgring.
Is that all that matters now with muscle cars these days? Or is it just something a select few on car forums care about?

If one car is faster than the other, at any givin road course by a marginal amount, do people, or the general public really care? Do most people even know what Nurburgring is?

IMO, when someone says they own the most powerful, fastest production muscle car ever made, people aren't thinking about Nurburgring times...

You talk about 650HP being all about bragging rights, well isn't that what the Nurburging time's for the ZL1 are?

I can tell you that everytime someone is driving down the road in their Shelby, or on the strip (with 650HP) and someone wants to play, which bragging right is gonna be best utilized? I ask this because that is where these cars are going to be doing battle 99% of the time. Which one is more important to everyday people buying these cars, 650HP or 1.3265 seconds faster around a 13 mile roadcourse in Germany?

The ZL1's standard suspension and coolers do add usable performance improvements which have been displayed on the track.
Keep holding on bro... lol

I am guessing you will at least a few hundred increase in price (usually happens with all cars year to year). the Camaro prices have went up each year since 10.

I sadly fear it will be lacking since suspension plays such a huge role in that course for time. Sure that long straight away would be fun with more power but I dunno

Both went different routes,
Chevy/GM Went the theme of road course.
Ford went with the theme of drag.

But the ZL1 has a "drag launch mode" so no they didn't ONLY go with the theme of road course.

.
so road course racing is your thing? Are you going to add a roll bar and take your convertible out to the road course??

Difference: $2,195. (get ZL1 auto, and the gap narrows further)
You need to add that other fixed charge called freight to both cars.

you realize the 13 GT500 is MUCH more than just added HP, right? They also redid the gearing, new suspension with available bilstien adjustable shocks, bigger and stronger brakes, new stability control systems, i think yopu and others will be surprised at how quick the GT500 will be on the track. IMHO, they have at least a couple years developement time in this car.

Isn't this part of the SVT PP package? That's what sucks is having to pay another 3,800 to get all of the goodies.

And I realize with the price tag already where it's at, what's another 3-4k.

Nope, doesn't suck at all. Unlike the ZL1, if drag racing and not road racing/open track is your thing, then you don't need to pay an extra $3k for things that really do nothing for you on the strip. You, the buyer, get to configure the GT500 based on what you intend to use the car for versus making you pay for items on the car that you may never need/want/use in the base price.
