Circle D 1E converter and 3.91s going in!
Well, as some of you know, I am on a mission to be the first cam only car in the 10's. I ran 11.39 at 121.42 in 1400+ da and on stock gears and a very tight 3200 Yank. My 60 was only 1.74.
So now its time for more converter, and some gear. I chose the 3.91s because that should but me about 7000 crossing the traps in 4th instead of 5800 like I was with the yank. The yank was dropping to 4800-5000 on the shifts and Chris at circle d expects this converter to flash 4000 and only drop 1000 rpms on the shift. Also this new converter is a triple disk setup that I can lock at wot if needed or if it shows some gains by doing so. Converter is in, gears are halfway done. Should get it buttoned up tomorrow and post some first impressions of the setup. |

Had to change the pinion shim to set the pinion about .002" deeper to get the right pattern and also I had to switch the exsiting carrier shims opposite of each other to achieve the right back lash.
3.91s in a high revving auto.......awesome. At 121 mph I'm at 6900 rpm unlocked through the new converter. About the new converter. Its a Circle D 1E 4000 rpm triple disk. It is a new breed of converter that Chris at Circ D has developed that is supposed to be very efficient up top yet it flashes high and only drops 1000 rpm on the shift. I think I may be the first one trying this converter and on the datalog, I have confirmed it only dropped 900 rpm from 3-4. I am very happy with the factory 3.91s and the new converter. Hard to tell a lot on the street on the 20's but everything seems to be an improvement above the stock gear and yank 3200. |

Is there a big difference how it feels driving normal or have you tried that yet?
Does the converter feel really loose now?

Converter is about 300-500 rpm looser at part throttle than the yank 3200 was, put part throttle feels better to me, due to the gears. 1850 rpm at 60 mph I believe.
And yes, Ill be on Hoosier 28" slicks on 17's with skinnies. |

Rhino - congrats on your built!
I'm thinking about getting 3.91s as well (1LE Diff Assembly P/N 22806794). My current setup is: - Mild Livernois 1C Camsahft - TSP PRC aftermarket heads - Lingenfelter/AAC 3.70 ring&pinion The current 3.70 ring&pinion works perfect with my setup and is making the car noticeable faster. I have absolutely no traction problems - even at harder launches (as long as it is not raining ) I am not drag racing - it's just my fun car. Do you think it's a good idea to upgrade to 3.91s? http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=268634 |

Honestly, I wouldn't spend that much money for that little difference in gearing. Sure you will be able notice the difference, but it wont be drastic from what you have.
I went with 3.91s basically because my setup is going to stay n/a and I have a decent sized cam that likes to rev. If I was working with a 6700 rpm shift or less Id go with 3.70s. |
