PDIM?

Hi C5,
I have a 2011 SS and I just recently discovered I am not able to play music using AUX or USB anymore. I press the button for AUX and it will not even change. I can still play music on a CD and through radio.
I've searched a few threads and I'm thinking my PDIM went bad. I plugged a thumbdrive into my USB port and it did not light up, so I guess that confirms my PDIM is bad.

My understanding is (correct me if I am wrong please), I have to purchase a new PDIM, then pay to get it programmed at the dealership to be compatible with my stock head unit. That just seems a little pricey.

My question is, if I buy an aftermarket head unit, will I still have to get it programmed at the dealership? Or possibly a MyLink from a 2013? Will an aftermarket head unit have a PDIM in it, so I can play USB/AUX music?

Thanks

If you unit was al=ready set up/programed for the PDIM, all that you should have to do is get the new one and plug it in....its a PNP thing. the PDIM is easy to get to, its underneath the console. if you do a search there are some instructions to get to it.

Thanks for the reply. My car is a 1SS/RS so the PDIM was added later. Does this mean I will have to get the new PDIM programmed?

The BCM just needed to be updated to know to run the PDIM. Since your BCM was already flashed, it should make no difference if you get a new PDIM and put it in. The PDIM doesn't run off a VIN or anything, so just make sure part numbers match and swap it out.

What is this ‘PDIM’ module?
The PDIM (Preferred Device Interface Module) allows you to directly connect many USB-compatible devices to your car to play music. It also allows you to wirelessly play music from a supported device via Bluetooth.

My PDIM has always been noisy when using USB. However, it works OK with Bluetooth. Have you tried that with an iPod or iPhone? You can't control from the head unit, though, except to pause or skip tracks.

Ah, that's why I have never heard of it, GM calls it a Multimedia Player Interface Module.
