Have you tried contacting GM/Chevy Customer Service? I do know that the rules and warranty is different in Canada than the States, but there has to be a venue for you to get help.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Best regards
I have tried contacted GM/Chevy C.S. No response back yet - amazing.

Cool Top issues

The top isn't right it even sits to high in the compartment.
One of the first top fixes produce this. Stay on top of the dealer who did it,
To me it's unacceptable should have pushed for the new waterbag I know I am

I've posted on this site in both the topical and the regional (Canada) forum. I PM'd a GM tech in the US who kindly replied but did not know of any Canadian techs to refer me to. I have contacted GM Canada online with my VIN, contact information and a summary of my problem. Nothing.

And then they wonder why "cross-border shopping" is such a problem...

Here's a summary. [In the brackets that follow is my latest update on each item from my dealer who has given the car back to his soft top installer (a 3d party) to "fix" it.]

My car was built in late 2012 and sat on a lot for some time. I purchased it with around 50 miles on it in June 2013. Around August 2013, after washing the car with a hose, I noticed a single water drop mark trailing down my rear windshield. It was on the inside and I suspected it entered through what appeared to be a very slightly warped rear windshield moulding on the passenger side. I have never had a water leak and my roof otherwise operated fine. Wind noise was very reasonable and I did not observe any obvious rub marks.

Last month, the dealer performed a soak test and confirmed the rear window moulding was indeed warped and could allow water to enter. The entire roof fabric would be replaced under warranty. I was VERY reluctant to go ahead with this as I've read how many problems begin with a roof replacement, but I also did not want to just let this moulding problem remain.

My Chevy dealer ordered the part, and after I pleaded with them to ensure their 3d party soft top installer (that apparently does both classic restorations as well as work for BMW/Benz/Porsche dealers in town) ensures the job is done properly, I left the car for a couple of nights. When I picked the car up in the evening, the top aesthetically looked fine. It was quite tight but I assumed being new that was normal. Then I started noticing issues:

1) Rubber trunk moulding/seal seemed uneven against the rear of the roof - photo attached - (even when compared to an SS vert on their lot). [soft top contractor seems to believe the moulding should not rest along the top as it allows for better water drainage. This makes little sense to me as it is both a little uneven and actually has a little "v" or valley that I would think allows more water to just sit there. Wouldn't mind feedback on this.

2) A looped string hung from the roof headliner at the passenger side window; [no explanation yet, just sloppy]

3) more wind noise on the road; [no explanation yet]

4) my driver's side quarter window made a slight "clunk" near the fully down position, suggesting it was hitting something (never did it before);[no explanation yet]

After a couple of days, I cycled the roof in my garage. More issues:

5) A nylon strap on the passenger side popped a rivet and hung around 3 inches down below the roof headliner; [installer claims may have used the wrong sized rivet on that spot]. I came across this link which suggests there may be something to that...but how do they not get this right???

http://sandyblogs.com/techlink/?p=1755

6) I noticed (like Angrybird) that the two curved metal roof braces at the rear stuck out a few inches above the car line when retracted. The raised braces and the roof generally stuck up high enough that one would not be able to put the tonneau cover on without pressing down to push them lower. [Installer claims this will settle over time as the fabric weathers/softens]

7) When cycled to close, the hydraulic motor would stop with the roof around 2.5 inches from the windshield top. It took A LOT of strength to pull the roof down to lock it with the single clasp. [Again, installer claims it is due to the roof fabric being new] While that makes some sense, our vehicles COME with "new" fabric on the roofs and they do not operate this way. WTF?

So that's the deal for now. I'm going to the dealer on Thursday morning to inspect my car and go over this stuff in person. My service manager has tried to be helpful but informed me that GM has NO ONE who can do this job on their own. GM Canada seems content to just ignore me. I have documented everything but feel rather abandoned by this whole experience. I love my car and hope all goes well, but I did not expect I'd go through crap like this less than six months into a $40,000 plus vehicle.

Anyone with a contact in GM Canada, please PM me as I'd love to have a "William" or someone like him in my corner. Thanks.

Wow I didn't realize Canada would have a different system than us. I was actually su prized that they contacted the dealer and already have something going in just one day...
Good luck I hope you get results soon.

Had my top replaced...there are minor issues still, but they are being fixed one by one, it is one mechanical engineering feat these tops....... but the top being tight, yes so is mine. I am sure it will settle. As to the top from the factory not being this tight....keep in mind these cars sit and sit aaaannnnnddddd sit on the lots and in the holding areas before transportation, as the top expands and contracts with the weather and temperatures as well as just time. So by the time we as consumers purchase it, it is a bit more forgiving. Not saying that is the case here as I would still keep an eye on it!! just figured I would help ease your anxiety a bit about that one issue. keep us posted as I am interested to see how your situation pans out.

Funny...though we suffer as we do with stuff like this, and it's great to have each other to rely upon, maybe it is worth taking five and just being thankful for all the stuff we do have. As much as these roof issues have been an unwelcome pain in our rear ends, I for one feel fortunate that I have a life. Period. Second, I have a life blessed with family and friends. Finally, I have a life where I can actually own and drive a Camaro at all.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends.

I have a phone conference scheduled with the District Service Specialist to discuss what my next option is.
Has anyone else done this and have any tips on what to ask for?
Right now all I want is proper operation of the top so I can use it as when I first purchased the car and an extended warranty on the top, frame and water management system.

Yes, be as nice and polite and professional as possible, you need to get this guy on your side. Mention how long you have been a loyal customer but not too much.

It would be a good idea to make yourself an outline, a start to finish (current situation) where you are at now and then what you want done. Then practice it out loud to yourself. If you can't do it in under 5 mins, edit something out or just get to what you want done now. These guys are being tugged from 8 different directions and you don't want to be the thorn in the side. He has enough of those.

Good luck and keep us informed.
