I had only been using 91 in the car as well....I had to fill up at a station recently that only offered 87. I noticed a significant difference in hesitation...the snap was gone, seemed sluggish. I didn't like it and switched back to the 91.

The KR in a v6 is different when using 87 vs 93 (or 91 in some places). I have tried two tanks of each grade and can say my car ran the best overall with premium.

How to hug your camaro
Buy the car that you would most like to get beat in. The other guy will always be faster.

My car seems to run better on higher octane. Also dont the higher ocatanes burn and leave your engine a bit cleaner in the long run. Either way, put in what you want, i feel better and feel the car runs better on higher octane. When I fill up, 2-3$ on a 65$ fill up isnt going to break me.

Good Old 87 is fine! Gas is already 4 bucks.. No need to pay 4.50! With my mods.. I don't even notice a difference between 87 and 92+.

I guess if you are going to the track then 92 wouldn't hurt. But for everyday driving if you are filling up with premium you are WASTING money.

Funny because I don't. The MPG is the same for me. Every motor is different with different mods.

Not a V-6 guy, but in defense of higher octane, what I've read is that its ok to use 87, unless you "hear" knocking, then move up a grade...sounds pretty subjective and not very scientific, depending on each individuals hearing...dunno...Maybe those who feel improved performance with hi-test, just don't hear a knock, but its there???...

I agree with 90503 - my old mazda pickup knocked on 87, ran great on 89. I use 87 in the Camaro, it doesn't knock. I only buy Chevron with Techron though. I ran premium for a while last year when prices were low, I think it ran a bit snappier, but it doesn't run bad on 87 so while prices are climbing higher, I'll just stick with it.

i was using regular at first and my MPG was 21.7 then i switched to premium and my MPG went down to 19.3. I didn't notice anything different with performance besides my MPG going down a bit (no biggie). Switched back to regular. I can't complain

Yeah... as stated premium usually lasts (very) slightly longer (in my experience; I don't think this is a proven fact), the fuel is slightly cleaner, in turn your engine will be slightly cleaner in the (very) long run ... I usually stick to mid grade. Overall the tank of gas is maybe 2 dollars more.

Octane simply refers to how much a fuel can be compressed before it combusts.

Many articles written on this and the placebo effect.

If you can hear the Camaro Knock with you ears then you are a better man than me. And I would also say that you need to get your car to the shop as several of you cars sensors and systems have failed.
