Check Valve why do we need them?

Firstly I have an elite catch can installed with the check valve but I am wanting to get a better understanding of why it actually needs the check valve.

From what I understand is the check valve is a 1 directional flow eg if flow reverts in the opposite direction the valve closes and doesn't allow it to pass the valve.

When our LSA engine is under boost pressure more crankcase pressure builds up and is released through the PCV system and through the catch can/check valve. During this boosted stage of the engine the valve is open as the direction of air flow is in the same direction as the valve in the open position.

When the engine is running at idle or even highway cruising 60-70mph the engine is under vacuum at this point air is being sucked from the snout into the catch can and the valve is still open.

So my question is at what point is the valve closed and why is it needed?

To me it appears that the valve will always be in the open position, it's either under boost/vacuum at the same time or it is under vacuum and the flow is in the right direction.

Don't need one unless the dirty side sees boost, and on a PD blower if you are before the rotors that won't happen.
