pay cut... have to downgrade
The contract for my job is about up. Good news: I can get hired on full time. Bad news: I have to take a pay cut to do so (but then I get more benefits and such too). I've been able to make my payments so far for my baby, but with the coming pay cut I will BARELY be scraping by. Which means, if something unexpected happens I will be screwed.
So I'm left with very little options here, I'll be looking into a cheaper vehicle. Sooo anyone in Iowa wanna buy a nice 2LT/RS Camaro? Also if you guys have any recommendations for .... lesser... vehicles, I'm up for suggestions. I've been looking at the cobalt, comparing cars on its level (Focus, Mazda 3, Scion tC, etc...) Definitely trying to keep the price point under 20,000.

How long can you wait? Cruze is going into production next year. That will give you a lot more car for the money.

You could probably pick up a used or new Cobalt for a good price. Focus seems like a decent car as well.
Or you could head down to a Buick-GMC dealer and see if you can find something there from what's left of Pontiac.

You might be able to get a good deal on a new Mustang V6 and get it under 20k. Dealers are making great deals on the 2010s because the 2011s will be quite upgraded on both the V6 and V8 models.

a gto? what type of car are you looking for though? family sedan? or an other car like the camaro? im sure theres a bunch of options out there. the cobalt ss isnt a bad car. now, which cobalt would you want? the 4 door ss? the turbo one? or the supercharged one? the n/a one is okay. not as powerful as the rest.

Which is under 20k.
And the dealerships are giving out very good deals on the 2010s as well. Someone here bought a loaded GT for his wife, and paid well under 30k. That's a steal, and I'm sure the V6s are able to be had for cheap right now as well. |

If its for a daily driver, I would do the smart thing and get a car you can pay for in full. Having that extra cash each month and the lower insurance each month will help in many ways. For one, it ensures you have cash when needed, but also you can save that extra money and eventually put a nice chunk down on a 2011 Camaro or purchase a used 2010 and have really low payments. I for one wish I could do this but I'm stuck upside down in a high payment for an ordinary car.
If you know enough about cars, you can probably find a good deal from a private seller and get something that runs well for under $3,000. If it lasts you a year, it pays for itself. |

I would be nice, but I bet you'd be paying close to what you're paying now. I believe the sticker on that car is going to be pretty high (for a compact car) since it is an electric car. I think a cobalt would be a great downgrade.

You're thinking about the Volt. The Cruze is a regular compact car built on the same platform as Volt, but has 1.8L/1.4T engines. It'll cost about the same as a Cobalt today.
