Question on proper shim kit for upcoming 3.91 swap

So I will be dropping the diff myself and am having a shop do the actual gear swap portion early May. I already have the gm 3.91 kit (19329768) and I knew it did not have the shims. I spoke with the shop and I'd like to have them in case they do need them. I am aware most people are saying the old ones can be re-used, so I am looking for just the carrier and pinion shims?

This is what I've come across search the forums, but am not 100% sure these will work? Suggestions.

If they are a good ring and pinion shop dont worry about buying a "shim kit", let them handle it they are the pros

Agree. A lot of people complain about gear whine. Not a peep from mine. I let them do their job.

as long as the gear kit is a GM set, the shim (should) swap straight over like it did for me...and I did mine in the garage...and a complete bearing replacement at the same time...everything just swapped over...as long as they get the pinion TQ set properly and the backlash nice and tight(.002-.004 best IMHO) and they use SYNTHETIC gear oil with friction modifier(Mobile LS or Royal Purple)...you will be fine..

I drove for about 500 mi before going to the track for the first time so the gears took a good set to each other(and make sure I did not F anything up!)...and after 1k miles did a drain/refill....inspected the old fluid and didn't find any issues...will be replacin the rear cover soon with a LPW and that will give me a chance to visually inspected the wear pattern and take some pics....

peace

btw - I also did a small mod to my diff at the same time...have the shop test the clutch paks...if they don't know how...hmmmm...rather fix any possible probs now vs...good luck OP..
