They’re not. My point was that with my 60’ times and trap speeds, I think more of these cars are capable of 10’s. The difference is that I can do it more consistently and without crazy negative DA. Maybe I’m wrong and my car is making more power than I think? I never ran it stock, so I guess we’ll never know

Well I can tell you that if any one of those mods were reverted you wouldn’t be hitting 10s. It doesn’t mean your car is slow, but you can’t use the word stock and have a list of mods at the same time. Losing cats and adding long tunes is a huge torque gain by itself.

Also I recognize that you’re not the OP who claimed stock. I suppose that the OP had a very good run in extremely ideal conditions to hit his 10s

Best I could do is a 11.14 @ 126. I don't get ideal conditions in Memphis tn tho.

Since it has been done then it is possible. But exactly how was it done? Settings, car prep, track launch technique, engine temps. Then the big variables, DA and track prep. I have seen other threads where this was discussed. We should do that here and then ask the mods to make this a sticky.

Can this be agreed upon? So At some tracks you will never get the DA we get at Cecil and Atco. So based on location it may never be possible.

I have a dubious theory some ZL1s are stronger than others. But then I highly doubt that theory as what could that variable be? Could it be the "Boost screw"? I have played with mine from time to time, I can only make my ZL1 slower. I doubt it could be mechanical tolerance differences. That was a big theory in the good old days about unusually fast stockers, but highly doubtful today.

And the title of this thread should be:

The ZL1 can sometimes be a 10 second car...stock!

My time was run in ideal conditions, but I'm not going to say it can't be done otherwise. 17CamaroZl1 ran 11.teens in 3300' da., which is why I'm sure that he, and possibly others, will run 10.8s in ideal conditions.
IDK, it's possible that others have already done it since it's only a small percentage of folks who actually post their times.

I've found that folks on here call these hero runs when the faster times are run in ideal conditions. Does it mean that the runs should not be counted? When the Demon ran 9.65, that was done under perfect conditions, and it took them 1k passes to get it. It's a time that no one has come close to duplicating stock. Should that pass not count either?

Correct....I never said a thing about stock. My car is on the bolt-ons “fast list”. I was just referencing my track experience and using it for bench racing purposes. A few guys have already broken into the 10’s dead stock (The OP being one), so it’s definitely doable.

I’m pretty confident I could lose the headers or intake and still run a 10. The header dyno testing I’ve seen on the ZL1 only shows about 15 RWHP on a stock car. I also do have cats. I knew this before installing them, but my plans were to always do a pulley (or more), so I see the headers as a good supporting mod. It’s all about the package.

As long as the bottom end hasn't been upgraded, even adding a Pro Charger is still "stock".

I have had numerous LT4s, Camaros and Corvettes on the Dyno and when testing is kept consistent they have all made similar power. Heat soak vs a cool hero run can mean 50plus hp and or tq. Point is, the cars are as consistent as any others.

Not all ZL1s are equal tho. There will always be variances between these cars and the tunes that might make the performance vary a bit. And of course there is driver ability, track prep, tire condition, weather conditions, and a bunch of other things that come into play. The way I see it is that high 11s come without much effort if any effort at all. Mid 11s are the shooting goal. Low 11s will come with a skilled effort. Anything faster than low 11s would need ideal conditions with everything working together perfectly. So you might see some 10s but that won't be the norm. I think low to mid 11s will be the norm. Fortunately for us ZL1 folk we don't have to fluff numbers, lie, hide mods, and do other underhanded bullshit to get these times.

FOr me personally I have never attempted to do better than high 11s. That was my goal and it came with little effort. My next goal was mid 11s but the track near me closed and the other track is way too far. So for now I'll settle for 11.8. It's fine with me because I don't really care to beat on this car anyway.

I'm headed to the track in 2 weeks for my first ever track day. Drag strip that is. If that car is hitting a 9.9, then if I can get any kind of 60ft, I should be able to put the Exorcist to sleep and push Frostbite. I won't be running a full drag set up, so even with a SBE, I'm hoping to set a record on a SBE run. No reason why I can't hit 9.5 with my set up. But, we shall see. I know we'll have the MPH. If my car holds of course haha.
