Dell has never given me any hassle when dealing with their customer support. Maybe I'm just lucky.

Order something with linux on it.

Then have fun trying to convince them that you didn't intall the OS yourself.

I've had that problem with dell AND hp. Both thought I'd installed a different OS than the one from the factory because it wasn't windows.

Nervous system is divided into the central nervous system (brain/spinal cord) and the peripheral nervous system (everything else). Peripheral nervous system is divided into sensory-somatic nervous system (voluntary functions) and autonomic nervous system (involuntary functions). Autonomic nervous system is divided into sympathetic (fight or flight responses) and parasympathetic (resting).

Cerebrospinal fluid is produced by ependymal cells in the choroid plexus of the ventricles in the brain. It flows from the lateral ventricles through the intraventricular foramen into the third ventricle, then through the cerebral aqueduct into the fourth ventricle, then through the lateral and medial apertures into the central canal of the spinal cord.

CNS has three layers of membranes covering it, duramater, arachnoid, and pia mater. In between arachnoid and pia mater is subarachnoid space which is filled with CSF and contains trabeculae.

Hydrocephalus results when the ventricles in the brain are closed, leading to a build-up of CSF, causing the brain and head to swell.

Peripheral nervous system has two kinds of nerves. Afferent nerves transmit sensory information to the CNS via dorsal root, efferent nerves transmit impulses away from the CNS to muscles via ventral root.

Neurons made up of dendrites, soma (cell body), axon, and terminal bulbs. Neurons transmit action-potentials. Action-potentials are self-propagating and stimulate terminal bulbs to release neurotransmitters such as acetylcholine. Acetylcholine or other agonists bind to dendrites on soma of following neuron, continuing action potential. Junction between neurons is called a synapse. Neurons can come in contact with skeletal muscle forming a neuroeffector junction.

Acetylcholinesterase is an enzyme that breaks down acetylcholine.

Axons of nerve cells are often myelinated, spaces between myelination are called nodes of Ranvier. Myelinated nerve cells in peripheral nervous system are myelinated by Schwann cells, nerve cells in central nervous system myelinated by oligodendrocites. Myelination helps speed up impulses.

Gray matter in CNS = somas of neurons. White matter in CNS = myelinated axons.

Currently studying for a massive exam over the nervous system tomorrow so you'll probably get more completely random posts like this while I try to remember everything.

Reflex arcs consist of a sensory neuron transmitting an impulse through an afferent neuron through the dorsal root into the spinal cord, synapsing with an interneuron within the spinal cord which sends an impulse through an efferent neuron out the ventral root to muscles.

There are 12 nerves known as cranial nerves that run in/out of the brain.

Vagus nerve is both sensory/motor, mostly sensory, runs down neck instead of spinal cord, innervates heart.

Sympathetic nerves originate from thoracic and lumbar regions of spinal cord. Parasympathetic nerves originate from cranial and spinal nerves.

Spine divided into four parts, cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacrum.

Compilation of soma in peripheral nervous system = ganglia.

Sympathetic nerves utilize sympathetic trunk. Afferent nerves synapse with soma in dorsal root ganglia, send impulses to interneuron in spinal cord, synapse with preganglionic, myelinated, presynaptic neuron which runs into white ramus communicans into paravertebral ganglia, synapses with postganglionic, unmyelinated, postsynaptic neuron which runs out of gray ramus communicans.

Exceptions: Presynaptic neuron can synapse at other paravertebral ganglia. Can synapse with prevertebral ganglia when innervating splanchnic nerves. Can synapse with adrenal medulla (postganglionic neuron has no axon, only soma, releases neurotransmitters directly into blood, releases adrenalin aka epinephrine or noradrenalin aka norepinephrine).

Body Functions
The things our bodies do are often strange and sometimes gross. Here are some weird facts about the way your body functions.

Earwax is necessary: If you want healthy ears, you need some earwax in there.

Your feet can produce a pint of sweat a day: There are 500,000 (250,000 for each) sweat glands in your feet, and that can mean a great deal of stinky sweat.

Throughout your life, the amount of saliva you have could fill two swimming pools: Since saliva is a vital part of digestion, it is little surprise that your mouth makes so much of it.

A full bladder is about the size of a soft ball: When your bladder is full, holding up to 800 cc of fluid, it is large enough to be noticeable.

You probably pass gas 14 times a day: On average, you will expel flatulence several times as part of digestion.

A sneeze can exceed 100 mph: When a sneeze leaves your body, it does so at high speeds — so you should avoid suppressing it and causing damage to your body.

Coughs leave at 60 mph: A cough is much less dangerous, leaving the body at 60 mph. That’s still highway speed, though.

Pretty Slow at work tonight.....
