wider tires on stock rear wheels

Ive got a 2010 2SS blown. The stock tires wont hook up. Id like to put the widest tire I can on that fits. Id like to go to a 10 or 10.5 in wide tire if I could. Or will I have to buy bigger rims to accomplish my goal? Pete

We've seen 315s put on stockers but I wouldn't recomend it. At some point you want the sidewall to do it's proper job.

I'd go 295 but that's it.

Lots of guys go with drag radials for the street because for this reason. I run
305/35/20 Nitto 555R drag radials ( on 10'' wheel) as daily driver tires.
I just do a quick little burn out and I'm good to go. At the track they stick like glue after a nice burnout.

If you really want to go 315s or wider in the rear you should get some 11'' wide wheels.
You can also widen the stock wheels but that makes for a very heavy wheel. The stock wheels are already pretty heavy.

What size rear wheel are you running? Who makes them? I think your tire size would suit my needs but it appears Id need new wheels

I'm running TSW Nurburgrings 20x9.0 front, 20x10.0 rear. They are light weight at only 24-25 lbs (stock wheels weigh 32 lbs). They run around $1400.00 for the set. My 305s are pretty much the max size tire for the rears. If you go any wider the tire will start to stick out. But the 305s look great on my car.

Here's a pic from the front of the car. I'm running the stock tires up front of the 9'' wide wheels.
