A/C drain grommet

Discovered while have my car repaired after a fluid fire that the drain grommet for the a/c system was damaged. Ive ordered a new one based off a parts drawing. I cant find much info about the drain, other than this grommet is supposed to empty the water, is there anything else in there to consider beyond grommet replacement?

It's just a drain from the HVAC setup. Your evap core naturally makes moisture and it drains through that grommet/drain. You'll be fine just to replace it.

I get the process, but was concerned there was more to the drain than just the grommet. I feel better knowing its just the grommet now. Thanks a bunch

So does water just drain thru a hole in the grommet? If so what does the water drip on?

Pretty much. As long as it's out of the airbox for the hvac it doesn't matter. I have repaired a truck that had the tube on upside down. Once there was enough water in the airbox it started to blow a mist out of the vents. I turned the drain right side down and about a gallon of water came out haha.

After a warranty repair on my '14 SS the dealer did not hook up the drain right and it was a lot more than mist coming out of the vents.

Must have turned on your interior rain feature haha. Looks like a shorter box in the Camaro would let the fan blow out more than a mist.

I think there may be a post on here about my horrible experience with this dealer, but this happened after several mess ups on their part.

I was mad as hell when I turned on the car and this started happening.

I guess my whole point is don't skimp on the AC drain unless you want a cold shower.

Definitely hoping it arrives before my torque convertor does so theres no more time lost on my reassembly. Glad its just the grommet part to replace
