With Ez Pass you register all your transponders and all your cars to your account. At that point you can switch around all you want. And they do have license plate scanners so if you forget your transponder or it doesn’t scan, they still tie the toll to the correct account. That’s how I found out my transponder wasn’t working. They sent me a letter telling me it had failed like 15 times in the prior month.

Interesting. In Illinois, they make a big deal about the fact that you can’t switch transponders from car to car. The transponder must match a specific vehicle and license plate, and swapping them is a violation.

Ohio is similar to Virginia. The transponders you have are tied to one account and in that account you list the license plates and vehicles.

In Illinois (I-pass) you can swap one transponder to another vehicle as long as it is registered to the account.

No issues with reception. Only problem is the dot pattern behind the mirror making suction cups lose grip in heat. Transponder fell and left a mark on the soft touch coating of the dashboard.

NY/NJ EZ Pass is the same.
