In Case You Missed the 2009 Early Review
A nice one from Consumer Guide Auto on HowStuffWorks giving a good preview of what's to come:
http://auto.howstuffworks.com/2009-chevrolet-camaro.htm Do you agree with this statement? With nostalgia-exploiting styling and a promise of 400 horsepower, the 2009 Chevrolet Camaro has good looks and muscle to match. But by its 2009 launch date, will anyone still have Camaro fever? Lovin the classic camaro image gallery, btw: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/enlarg...ge=0&gallery=1 |

I find this part funny. Quote:
They still have the ls2 as the only v8 they have. The bold part is interesting as I didn't know they had 6 gears in any automatic transmission aside from the 7 speed slr (I'm told, not confirmed) |

i just think that they are way off on the pricing. start around 25,000? ahhhh no. Bob lutz said himself that it would start well south of 25,000.

Oh I wasn't thinking paddle shifter. I was thinking full auto. =P
Thanks for enlightening me. |

It's a Full auto, too. Sorta. It's going into the Malibu, and the Silverado's, the Vette, etc - it's the next step in auto's for GM. 4-speed is on it's way out.
Also, Don't hit me - cause I'm not sure how you interpret GM's "paddle-shift". But it's an automatic Tranny first and foresmost. The shifting part is just an added bonus. It can be in any form they please, doesn't have to be paddles - in can be a floor-mounted-shifter-incorporated tap-up, tap-down, Shift stalk incorporated buttons on the Silverados... |

the six speed autos have already made it into a couple of GM's top model SUVS, the Escalade and Denali... they both have "tap up/tap down" setups... expect that all Camaros, V6 and V8, to have a six speed auto and with the CTS having a 300+hp DI V6, expect that to be the standard by the time the Camaro is launched, too.
I was once told to "... think new when you think of the 5th gen Camaro. Everything you know right now will be obsolete by the time the Camaro launches, so you have to think ahead of the curve to be able to think of what will be available and what will be standards of the industry in 2009." So forget 4spd autos, forget the LS2, forget the solid rear axles that plagued the track performance of all previous Camaro generations... think Bluetooth, adaptive cruise control, Direct Injection, automatic transmissions that shift almost as fast as some of the best drivers in the world and raise the bar... because that is how you build the cars of tomorrow... and that is what we are talking about now: the first sports car in GM's fleet of future cars... and contrary to what all of the car magazines and TV shows think, you dont get to the future by offering the same old thing over and over and over again... I believe GM and Ford have both learned that that bird just wont fly anymore.
