Rear View Mirror Rattling After Sub Install- UPDATED W/ DIAGNOSIS

****UPDATE****

After messing with it a little more I found out the rattle is coming from the little plastic tab on the bottom of the mirror that moves it to the "dim" position (1SS - don't have the auto-dimming mirror.) I'm going to put some adhesive felt on that tab when I get home and should take care of it!

Just wanted to give an update in case someone else has a mirror rattle they can't figure out.

So I just installed my subwoofer last night (JL 10W3V2 being pushed by an MTX 421D - 300W RMS) - and even at low volumes I get a terrible rattle from my rear-view mirror. .Never had it before the sub because I guess the stock (non BA) system didn't produce low enough frequencies to make it rattle.

Anyone else with a sub have this problem? Anyone know a good fix for it?

Everything I've read suggests opening up the mirror and putting dynamat or some kind of foam in the mirror housing...and I'm not really cool with that. Would this be considered warranty worthy? (I mean...the rattle is really loud).

Wouldn't think it's covered under warranty, unless it was loose to begin with. And if you're looking to rattle loose your interior roof linings while bouncing quarters off the roof, that wouldn't be covered, either..

I know. I'll put wheel weights on the mirror and fix the problem Brembo-style.

That is to be expected, however it should only happen at high volume. If you are seeing the rattle at low volume, check for deficiencies in the mirror and its installation, i.e. anything loose. I have a 10" clarion sub in my SUV and my rear mirror dances to the low frequencies everytime I crank it up, btw I do have dynamat everywhere in the doors and rear panels. Its all good, awsome sound.

check the plastic clip that covers the wires behind the mirror, seems like it could rattle

check out this thread for some good pics http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...ar+view+mirror

I agree... you can test by turning your sub up and then touching different parts of the mirror to try and push each part down to see where the rattle is coming from.

Buddy if your system knocks then this is gonna happen.

I had 2 Memphis M3s (400RMS) and those suckers will knock. You get used to it.

I can even identify most car makes and models with a shaky mirror. lol

Figured out the problem...updated in the original post. This only should apply to 1SS mirrors.

Mine actually rattled the mirror bolt lose I had to tighten it. Anyone have a way to keep the mirror from rattleing so bad that it ends up facing the floor instead of behind me where I need it? XD
