2015 2SS to 2018 2SS
Looking at changing from my 2015 SS to a 2018 SS. Possibly a ZL1. Looking for opinions on the 2018 model year in regards to the LT1 vs LS3 and characteristics of each car. Anything I should look out for or keep in mind during my research?

You may want to head over to the Camaro 6 forum and do some spying. One thing I'm aware of is the auto trans shudder issue. Guess it was a fluid problem and sometimes results in a torque converter change. I still have yet to test drive one but from what I read they're a little more cramped (or cozy) interior wise. Of course you have the direct injection engine and the catch can debate. If I was shopping for a Gen 6 I would look at a '21 LT1 model. Most HP with minimal frills. My two '15s are not going anywhere, I like them way too much.

I should've mentioned that I would stick with a manual. I'm spoiled and like the interior options better in the gen 6 models. Specifically the 2ss or 1le. 2SS's are going for around 40k and zl1s over 50k for the 2018's. I'll keep looking around the gen 6 forums. Thanks!

The problem is the 6th gen blends in with other cars in traffic and doesn't have the muscular presence the 5th gen has unless you option up to a ZL1-1LE. However, if you're going to upgrade, then you might as well upgrade to a ZL1.
The only problem is that's getting up to C8 money. Now, I don't know how you feel about the new C8, but I'd buy a C8 in a heartbeat before getting a 6th gen ZL1. It's mid engine, exotic looking and offers better performance stock. Then again, you could always buy a 5th gen ZL1 and mod it up 70+hp to 650hp total and have the best of both worlds. Great timeless muscular 5th gen style and great HP numbers. People always like to talk about the weight difference, but at most it's really like 200-250 lbs on most models. The weight of a well built passenger. Yeah, I know with a 6th gen you get the quick shifting 10 sp auto which is better for drag racing. However, with a C8, you get mid-engine chassis and the dual clutch transmission for sub 3 sec 0-60's bone stock. Unfortunately, it's only a two seater so if you need a little more room you need to buy another car/truck/beater. Last edited by mikeman; 10-26-2020 at 05:29 PM. |

Significantly better chassis and faster in every measurable way. I enjoy my 13 1LE but the smaller 6th gen is a better machine - as it should be considering it’s the newest tech.

Because I have to look at it at least occasionally, if my 2013 ever goes it will absolutely not be replaced by a 6th gen Camaro. C8 maybe, but most likely another Porsche. At least they know how to run their dealerships.

Yeah, if something ever happens and I don't have my 2013 any more, it won't be replaced with a 6th gen. |

I’d drive a 6th ZLE in a heart beat. I wouldn’t trade my SS for one but I’d certainly love to have one a little later on in life.
