I got my stereo guy to analyze the system. He put a small resistor on the center speaker to reduce its loudness. Sounds cleaner than without the resistor and more defined and staged than without it. Nice middleground.

I just disconnected the speaker. Seems crazy to cut a wire on my brand new car when it takes. Five minutes to unplug the speaker

not worth cutting anything when all you have to do is pop the trim, and undo 2 screw to unplug it.

Instead of a fixed resistor, put a L-pad inline with this speaker. Then you can adjust it for different material.. I have one in my Silverado. Works great to control the effect on the height of the sound stage.

I disconnected mine last weekend and have had a couple days to listen, and had a variety of music playing. I'd say it's worthwhile. At various times, I swore my passenger side mid-bass had to be blown, but then at other times it's ok.
Now with the center disconnected, I don't hear the quick distortion I used to hear. Imaging sounds more "stereo," but not necessarily better placement. What I did was loop a tiewrap through the plug on the speaker, and then through the wire. So I've disconnected it without dropping the plug. I wanted to avoid picking up a rattle in the dash and it worked out. If I ever re-connect, just pull straight up, snip tie wrap, plug back in. For anyone familiar with GM fasteners, these are pretty typical. Pull up on the front until you hear "Pop." Pull rear. When removing, due to the tabs in the back, pull towards yourself, and NOT straight up. I took some pics that I thought would be useful.

I did this yesterday as well, I too think it makes a big difference.
I noticed that when I turned the radio on after removing it that it blanked out for a moment and then came on. Later, while being not all that impressed with the audio, I started playing around with my tone settings. I realized that they were back to default. I think that the "blanking" that I saw was a reset maybe? If this is true those who have done this and arent impressed may want to check as once I changed my settings the audio was much better. Secondly taking the grill off is a bitch. Mine happened to have one side with metal prongs and the other with plastic. The side with metal is jacked up causing me to have to order a new grill from GMpartshouse. Apparently with the metal prongs it puts too much strain on the tabs. This seems to be a nice, hopefully for you, inexpensive mod. I like it. Cheers K |

Is there a video of the grill removal anywhere?
