Speedy cloth

So I don't think I have the patience to go the clay route and from what I have seen the speedy cloth is a viable option.

For those of you who use this.

How do you know when to turn it? A new section for each 1/4 of car?

How do you clean it?

How do you know when it is used up?

How often do you use it?

I have done some searching and found out how to use it, but nothing really addressing the above.

Never heard of this Speedy Cloth but I did just recently buy and use Clay 2.0 by Mothers and it worked pretty good; it's basically like a foam applicator kind of thing with a rubber surface and replicates the effect of clay; just dip it in the soap/water after washing the car to keep it wet and lubed, feeling for/cleaning debris every so often - if it falls on the ground just dunk it in the water again. Also good for many uses unlike clay.

The speedy cloth is supposed to good for 100 uses and works the same way.

I believe what you are speaking of is the SM Arnold Speedy Prep Towel.

I have one, with over 50 uses on it, and it still performs as new.

The first thing you'll want to do is break it in on the glass. It comes with a protective coating on it, which needs to be removed before using it on paint. Using it on the exterior glass will remove it.
It's OK to use a little pressure with it on the glass, but do not use pressure at all on the paint.

Unlike standard clay where you can see the contaminates on the clay bar, with the prep towel you listen and feel. When the towel glides smooth that section is done.

When you see diminished results, flip to a clean side.

To clean the towel simply rinse it with warm water.

How do you know when to use it?
Do the baggie test. If you feel bumps, use it. DO not use soap, but clay lube. Ultima waterless wash plus concentrate works great and is inexpensive. You can also use ONR (Optimum No-Rinse).

If you put your hand in a sandwich bag and rubbed lightly on the paint, it would sound like sand paper. If it does, you need to clay.

If it's smooth like glass, your clear is clean.

Do you need to strip the wax that is on it first? Or, speedy cloth it, polish, seal, and wax?

Yes it's best to do a strip wash first if your going to use the towel and polish.

Wax left on the surface can clog your polishing pads, and diminish results from polishing.

It's also a good idea to do an IPA or Eraser wipe down prior to adding your base protection after polishing.
This will remove any oils or residue on the surface that will prevent your sealant from bonding properly.

Dawn dish soap 1st, this will strip oils and wax elements. Rinse, use clay towel if you feel grit with plastic grocery bag. You now bave zero protection, raw. You now have some detail spray you have used to make your clay towel work. Rinse, now you can polish with confidence, and know cotaninants are clear.
