potential purchase engine sound
Hi all,
I may be purchasing this camaro and received a video of the engine running. Just wanted to get input if this sounds ok. Sounds a little noisy but I've never had a gen 5 camaro. It is stock with no headers, but has a borla catback. Let my know what y'all think on how the engine sounds. https://youtu.be/F2pbjPGvsVM

If it sounds a little like a sewing machine at idle and also like it needs a valve lash adjustment, buy it! Seriously!
I’m assuming your hearing is good. Mine is SHOT. If I don’t have my hearing aids in, I have the quietest LS ever made. It’s downright scary if I ever open the hood with them in.

I think it sounds ok. I would recommend you look for a “check engine light”. If one is present, check the codes with a code reader. If there is a code for a misfire then the engine probably has a issue. I am not a mechanic, but in my experience the engine computers pick up a misfire before I can hear it. Misfire can be as simple as a bad plug, plug wire, coil, etc but also the first indication of lost compression from an expensive internal derangement. Good luck

Sounds normal. There’s no engine cover so you are getting more noise from the valve train which is normal. As mentioned, check for engine lights or codes if you can. Sounds normal actually.

I thought mine was bad but this is a whole other level loud compared to what I hear through my headers. Check codes with a reader that can tell you the most recent codes even after they have been cleared.

I think it sounds pretty normal. Like mentioned b4 check for codes. Also it would be nice to hear a slow throttle up and down.

Thank you all for your input. Really great to have your experience. Car is about 5 hours away from me at a dealer and they sent me the video. I'm going this weekend to check it out and I'll bring my code reader and check for all of the issues I've read about on here. Hope I bring it home.

^^^^^ This, as Banana says that is pretty loud compared also to our cammed up beasts! Mine isn't even that loud with the headers and what all I can hear. But mostly she sounds normal. Check it out real good for services and maintenance. Good luck.

Sounds fine to me. I did notice that your cold air intake is missing a piece on top of the heat shield that seals to the hood and keeps hot engine air out. It's an easy thing to correct, but you'll want to fix that.
