Rock Scuff on Clear Shield
Washed the car this morning and found this rock ding in the clear shield on the front end. You can see a small dent to the left, then the scuffed-up film on the right. No telling how much damage the rock would've done without the film, so thank goodness for that.
Still, I'm not exactly thrilled with the scuff. I forget the brand of film my installer used, but it's supposed to be the self-healing type. Do you think it will? My classic car buff neighbor recommended trying a hair dryer on it. But we're about to have a week of temps in the 90s here in AZ, so I'm thinking I'll just ride it out and see if the hot weather helps flatten this out. Guys with self-healing film: Does that actually work? |

good plan, try the sun, then the hair dryer....self healing has a limit, a gash like this may not fully self heal....

Well, in fairness, that first pic was an extreme close-up. Here's some context.

Same EXACT hit I took on my 13 ZL1. sucked!!!
Had to get the bra removed and touched up the hit and then brought the car back to get a new bra section. Sometimes the rock is just to jagged and pierces thru. No mfg will warranty that type of damage.

Update
Well, the car's been sitting in 90-100-degree temps all week and no change. I took a new zoom photo (that's a small hair next to the damage), and you can see that the damage to the clear shield looks a lot like a "splash"--like you dropped a golf ball in water. I believe it's just going to stay that way and I'll have to live with it. Maybe someday it'll bother me enough to fix it, maybe not.
