FCA's 5 Year Plan: Dodge
https://www.roadandtrack.com/new-car...t-in-the-plan/
Interesting read. I'm somewhat shocked to hear Sergio axed the idea the next gen Charger/Challenger would be on the Giulia platform. Think it is a sure bet Dodge has gave up the handling/track car business.

reworked version of the current challenger platform. i'd laugh but people will still be buying it when it's 25 years old.

But I think at the same time the decision could only have been made for two reasons: 1. Adapting Giulia was too costly (either a cash flow problem or FCA thinks it wasn't worth it) 2. FCA realized switching to a modified Giulia would have shrunk the car too much and limited engine choices. It's obvious the size of LX is one of the reasons it continues to sell (especially in the rental/fleet market). And seeing how even though it has the worst handling and the slowest straight line performance (sans Hellcat/Demon) of the big 3 while still selling consistently, where's the incentive to spend money on a platform just to improve handling/reduce weight?

It really seems like FCA is just willing to run out the thread on Dodge, focusing on selling a few existing profitable models as long as they can, using traditional gasoline powered technology as long as people are still willing to buy them. At least Ford and GM are making attempts at turbo engines, hybrids and electric to stay in business as technology changes.

More than likely FCA realized they'd be losing a massive chunk of their fleet sales by shrinking Charger on the Guilia platform.

What peeked my interest was RAM entering the mid size truck market. I can't wait to see what they bring.

As far as the challenger goes, I dont blame them. The profit ceiling on those is ridiculous. That car has paid for itself 10x over at this point, and people keep buying them with little to no changes being made. Its better to recognize your short comings and market the car to the people who dont mind, than to try to engineer a track worthy car and it fail.
