P0174

I am getting a P0174 coded on my 2012 Camaro SS. It has 93K miles on it. Here is a list of things I have checked and changed: spark plugs and wires, recently replaced the bank 2 Cat and O2 sensors all GM parts, I had previously had a P0430, which was corrected with new CAT and sensors. I have checked for leaks thoroughly. I took the intake manifold off and examined it for cracks, replaced with new gaskets torqued to specs. I cannot find any leaks. I checked the injectors on bank two with a voltage meter and they were fine according to the manual. I checked the fuel pressure and it is at 60 psi. I read an interesting portion of the test and it stated that the fuel pressure should be between 35 and 45 psi while running, but mine is well above that but I have also read that it should be around 60psi. My thoughts are it could be the fuel pump, maybe the exhaust manifold has a leak, however not obvious and letting extra air in after the MAF and before the oxygen sensor 1 on bank 2. Lastly, I also read that the voltage meter test on the injectors isn't the only test, however, you need a special tool and scan to individually examine each one. If anyone has any ideas where to circle back to I am open to ideas. Thanks.

Ran into this before with my 2013 V6, here was my post about it...

https://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=551247

ended up needing a ecu reflash from the GM dealership, apparently i was told there was an "update" and yea fixed it. something to try if you run out of ideas.

How much was the ECU update? And what steps did they take before they settled on the reprogramming? Trying to avoid them going over all the steps I already did for it to be a reprogramming thing.

Most likely an exhaust leak because its bank specific to one side. Could also be leaking injector o-rings at the intake manifold,or a vacuum leak on the right bank intake manifold ports. But i would initally suspect exhaust right off the bat if nothing else has been disturbed. It's not MAF or PCV related as that would cause a lean issue on both banks not just one.

I thought the same thing. I haven't eliminated that yet. And my thoughts are the same in regard to the single side, however, the PCM reprogramming isn't out of the question. I have read that being an issue before, but I want to eliminate all the things I can before I go to the dealer.

1 hr. labor, like $125 if i recall. I checked a ton of things but my dyno shop told me the CEL kicked in the first run on the dyno. After i ran out of ideas I gave up and went to the dealership. i was told it was $125 for them to check on the problem and they came back with a "hey the tech found an ecm update for your car" they did that drove it a few miles then no more CEL. good luck with it .

The dealer updated the ECM, I also got an injector flush. The #6 injector wasn't operating at the same level as the others. So far so good. No codes.

OK, blessing in disguise. I finally found out the root cause. It was a bad lifter in cylinder 6. The displacement on demand DOD or active fuel management (AFM) lifter failed. You could hear it when it went clearly. I would prefer to do the LS delete, however, it is pricey. For now I am going to change the lifter and do a modification to the VLOM and get it tuned to delete the AFM.

I pulled the head on bank 2. Replaced the lifters in cylinder 6. And had it programmed to delete the active fuel management. First time since October that I haven't had a P0174 lean code. I believe the lifter was failing the entire time or the VLOM solenoid for that cylinder was acting up when it went to 4 cylinders and eventually caused the lifter to go out.
