Red Line Gear Lube
I think I'm going to try Red Line Gear Lube. What results has anybody had with it? Would I need the fiction additive or not? Any comments about your experience will appreciated. Thanks.

All relative. Most stuff is pretty good these days. Oddly enough, I used lucas non synthetic ....drain, fill and drive.

No matter the brand, check the container. If it says it already contains the LS additive then you don't need to add any more.
I like the Royal Purple Max Gear 75w90. Already has the stuff in it. Change it, do 10 figure 8s in a parking lot, good to go. Working the additive stuff into the clutches when fresh is key, there is a bulletin on it to do figure 8s after the change. |

Redline 75w90 is good as well as 75w140. I tried both and yes even if they say LS I recommend to add additive anyway. I added 1 and a quarter of additive from Ford and it grips better.

Thanks everyone for the helpful feedback! I only have 7200 miles on it thinking about changing lubes when it starts to warm up.

I have been using the Redline 75W90 product for 2 decades. Never had a worn out diff, noises with clutch packs on the limited slip units, no whine either. One of my BMW diffs lasted well into 400000km, with x2 HP over stock practically the entire life of it.
RedLine 75W90 already contains Friction Modifier. This is spot on for you application here . Per Redline, if you want "perfect" traction, use Red Line 75W90NS instead of the regular 75w90, and then add the Red Line Limited-Slip Differential Friction-Modifier / Break-In Additive, until the chatter disappears. BTW, I drained my factory fill diff fluid out, like 2 months after I bought it new, straight from the showroom. There wasn't even a couple thousand on the odometer when I drained it. I was totally surprised , to see how dirty the diff oil was! It was also quite black, and a slight, BUT, nasty odour was eminating from the oil. FWIW, the car had never even seen a track yet. I've drained/refilled twice since then, with Redline 75W/90. 3rd refill/drain was at about 14000km It looked very clean by the 3rd drain/flush. Each round of new oil re-fill, saw an approx. equal amount of mileage between intervals. I am quite satisfied now, BUT thank God I was proactive enough to drain the factory fill early enough on |

Yeah, in a clutch type limited slip the diff lube will look cruddy pretty quick. And that is just normal shedding/wear of the clutch material. In real heavy use, like track days, good idea to change often.
Especially when new. New LS/posi clutches will shed a lot of material when new and breaking in. Which is why that early change after the car is broke in is a good idea. And they put that big magnet in there to catch the metallic aspect of the clutch material. One of my next projects this year will be the Z28 RDM cooler for my 1LE. |
