Idle Tuning/Sorry its long
Ok guys, again its been a good while since I was active on the forum. Little rundown, back in fall of last year I upgraded my cam from the previous small cam to another "smaller slightly larger" cam. Everything went great and ran awesome for a small cam car. Fast forward to around 1st of the year and started having some issues, fought and fought with tuning and inspecting things to finally find out basically had blown both head gaskets. So now that everything is back together and running, I have been trying to do some research when time permits, but with 4 kids and being "essential" as they tend to call us now days, I haven't had a lot of success, but I am having an issue with the idle and best way to describe it is that at idle only when car is 1st started and warming up, the rpm's will climb to around 1200 to 1300 rpm when clutch is pushed in during a rolling stop even when letting the car idle for about 2 minutes before actually moving. Also it will idle great and not fluctuate at all, until the a/c or heat is actually running, then it will surge, but only when clutch is pushed in and sitting or coming to a stop. An idea's what to look for in HPTuners to possibly adjust/correct these slight issues? I,ve seen on HPT forum where some people show a/c on/off rpm items, but for my tune I am not seeing any of those things??

Mine has done something similar coming to a stop as long as I've owned it but not quite that big of a bump in rpm (A/C doesn't make a difference), I just figured it was normal for these.

Assuming it's nothing mechanical and is actually in the tune:
Could be the "In Gear" overspeed/underpeed spark tables causing the surge. Could be the Idle spark vs Coastdown spark tables causing the rise. Could be the Min Idle Airflow causing or contributing to both issues. Proportional and Integral air could be causing havoc if they've been moved to extremes. If it's a small cam, you should be able to get it to work pretty well with all stock idle settings, except for increasing the idle speed by maybe 250 rpm and increasing the min airflow table by maybe 3 g/s. Without a log, I'd probably start with those settings to rule things out.

Cams a 226/232 .57*/58* 112lsa. It idles great when sitting still cold or warm, it's only after starting off for say 1st 5min of driving that the rpm's rev and idle surges until it comes to a complete stop, the it settles in. But then when driving, even if its extended driving, with the a/c on it surges when clutch is engaged or drops to idle. I can pull some logs, but should I include anything in particular? I tried to attached a couple logs from back in June, but giving me an error. I am still trying to interpret the data myself. I will also dive into the items you listed. Thanks for the input RobZL1

They wont let you post logs on this forum. What were the old cam specs? Cant just go by lift or duration. My old cam had low lift and duration, but was a 110, and it needed alot of additional airflow. I agree with Rob above. Those are the most common settings to fix idle behavior due to a cam change. Mainly the Base Running Airflow/Airflow Minimum table. Compare it to your stock tune to see how much was changed. You might have too much actually, depends what the old cam wanted.

eLe, why can’t you post logs on here? I never heard this one. But sometimes my attention span is small. I guess I’m not seeing the issue with it.
