Blacktop Nationals - Aug 26-29, 2010

The Blacktop Nationals finally released a schedule of events... Blacktop Nationals Schedule

This thing looks like it is going to be a massive event and draw a ton of cars to Wichita.

Saturday has the car show, autocross, and drifting exhibition during the day and Saturday night has a cruise on Douglas.

I think it would be a lot of fun to get as many Camaro owners together for one of the shows and/or cruises. Imagine a ton of 5th gen Camaro's all rolling into this thing at once and parked in a large group.

I think it would be a lot of fun and a chance to meet some more Camaro owners from the area and possibly from further away.

I figured I would gauge interest in this and see what people thought. Either way, I will be attending this either as a entrant or spectator.

They have already started putting up traffic signs on Kellogg leading into downtown.

It's going to be a crazy weekend for downtown Wichita. Good thing the Rush concert was last Friday night and not this coming Friday.

There are signs up on 135 too, telling Blacktop Nationals participants which exit to take
Are you going Abygale?

Day one down... we didn't make any of the events during the day today, but did make it out for the Park City cruise. Needless to say, that was a good time. There were a ton of cars there ans a tone of people out just to watch.

I saw 2 other Camaro's there too. There was a white one with IOM stripes that had dealer tags on it a couple cars behind us and a Synergy Green one I saw briefly... It either of these were you I hope you had as much fun as us.

I only got these 2 pictures from before the cruise started since it was getting dark and I was driving. What you can't see are all of the cars in Alef's parking lot and around the corners both ways.

The highlight was the burnout area in the middle of 61st St. I was following a 2011 Mustang GT when he did his burnout and slid around a bit and was on his way. We pulled up with our lil ol V6 and proceeded to let it eat a bit through 3 gears and everyone went crazy. And if I had a $1 for everytime I heard a Bumblebee reference, I could have filled the tank... ha ha... It was a good time.

Day 2...

I thought I would share some more pictures from Saturday's events at the Blacktop Nationals in Wichita.

This first bunch was from the show during the day...

This was a really well done merging of 1st generation and 4th.

And a few more from the cruise later that evening. There were tons of people lining Douglas from Seneca to Broadway for the parade, and many more further down Douglass for the cruising that went on into the night as well...

We met up with DandDC09 before the cruise at Exploration Place and were also joined by another (sorry, I am horrible remembering names, so if it was you speak up). It was good to hang out before and run down the road together.

We also managed to pick up a SIM and a RY SS when we were going through Delano. We never did talk to them, but if you are on here, it was good to see you out.

Staging area...

I'm the one with the ABM that met up with you guys at Exploration Place. And no worries, I'm terrible with names too

It would have been even cooler if we could have picked up some more 5th Gens, but i think a line of five was still pretty damn impressive!

Not sure if any of you were there for the award ceremony, but if not, you should be glad to hear that in the "Modern Classic" category the GT500 got 3rd, a Mustang got 2nd, and a 5th Gen (mine) got 1st....at a Ford sponsored event no less!!

Thanks, I can't take all the credit though. My wife took most of the pictures... if you want any copies, let me know and I can email you the full size versions. That whole day was a blast... The cruise just topped it off. We cruised for a few more laps before we took off and it was starting to get pretty slowed down on the east bound side. Lots of burnouts going on under the bridge on that side though.

Most definitely... maybe you guys more than our fender.

It was good to meet you Ron. It was nice to see our 3 and then the other two that joined us. Was it just me or did they do a little swapping positions after they pulled out? I looked at first and the RY SS was behind me, next thing I knew the SIM one was there. I can't imagine the reactions we would have got with even more of a line of Camaros.

Congrats on your win too! It is always nice to beat out a blue oval, especially at an event that they sponsored so heavily.

All in all, I can't wait until next year (hopefully)!

Yeah, kind of early on the RY behind you swapped with the SIM, I'd guess to break up the colors a bit. Somehow towards the end of the cruise a hotrod (no idea what kind) got between you & Dan and me & the other 2. At the end of the "official" cruise the hotrod went one way, the 2 in front of me went another, and I had no idea which direction you two went, so we just ended up heading home.

Definitely have to do that again.

We were at the awards ceremony Congrats on the win! There were a few cars we were shocked didn't place at all... I'm curious as to how the judging took place. But we were very happy that a 2010 camaro took first in our class for sure!!
