Installed Speed Engineering Headers

Hey guys,

New to posting in the forum, been a long time researcher on here. I have owned my 2013 AGM 2SS/RS L99 for 4 years and I am finally getting around to doing some performance mods.

I first installed a CAI cold air intake and then a Lingenfelter/Corsa branded axle back. I thought these would be decently loud, since they are pretty small, but they weren't loud enough for me. So I decided to buy the speed engineering 1 7/8" headers with no cats.

On to the install... It wasn't too bad but it seemed I had all the small problems that everyone had mentioned. The problems I had were: the O2 sensor plugs were tough to get unplugged, the O2 sensors themselves were stuck pretty good, I also had to dimple the passenger side near the crossmember and frame. The clamps are crap like everyone says... I ordered some 3" band clamps from Jegs but they didn't fit over the connection pipe. Which clamps do yall recommend for this setup? I still highly recommend these headers for anyone on a tight budget and not using cats!

Now for the results... Sounds great on start up and idle! However, I was a little disappointed when I was driving around town. Seems awfully quiet for having headers, no cats, and small mufflers. I am thinking maybe the L99 resonator is to blame... How much sound volume is the stock resonator holding back?

Thanks for the advice in advance and I look forward to being a member of this forum!

The resonators will change the sound a little bit. If you’re looking for a louder setup, add a cam and just run open headers.

Yes, remove that tubby resonator....big difference. Then get a proper tune.

Good luck.

Speedengineering Headers

When I installed mine I had the problem of there are two O2 sensors but only one ports to plug them into. So I just left the other 2 front O2 sensors just hanging i don't know if that was a bad move or not.

The giant suit case makes a very noticeable sound difference. When I changed mine out for an x pipe I ended up removing the j pipes and putting in flow mater 10's to quite it down lol.

Hopefully in the near future I'll get a GPI SS3 cam and some ported heads. I loved the sound of the open headers but unfortunately the vibrating of the whole interior wasn't too much fun lol.

Sound's like I'll head to the muffler shop and get it replaced with an x-pipe! Excited to get my car to Ryan at GPI to get it tuned and running good!

Yeah.. when my catback got caught on a speed bump, running open headers sucked. Sounded killer though.

Stock L99 catback belongs in the trash, the resonator is a suitcase and the mufflers are heavy as well. Those mufflers won’t do much after getting rid of the stock resonator, you might go back the other way.
