From cat back you may gain some HP, axle back is strictly for sound.

A full exhaust system (cat back) will net you a few BHP but negligible effect to RWHP. Unless you change headers and cats, you won't notice a difference other than sound.

Most exhaust changes other than headers are purely for sound benefits. Going to long tubes and a tune is where you will gain the most.
Pic you exhaust mods based on how you like the sound. Any HP aside from the headers will never be felt and dyno numbers are subjective (every dyno and day may yield different results) and are for bench racing. |

If I am not mistaken he is asking about cutouts not catbacks.....there was a video a few years ago of a car with them installed the dynode and it picked up some hp. Not sure of the exact amount....

The Corvette is certified to gain 6HP at the crank with the NPP (open) exhaust.
Anecdote: Around 1976 my brother an I chipped in to buy an old Dodge Coronet police car. We parted it out and made a few dollars. But what my brother wanted were the suitcase mufflers that we welded onto flanges to connect directly to the headers on his 440 Plymouth GTX. We could drop them with three bolts on each side. So we are tripping up to the drag strip one Saturday and a sheriff is sitting under a bridge (shade, you know). My brother is right on the 70MPH limit, but the car has a 4.10 screw so it's winding ~3500 RPMs. He gets pulled, I stop and walk over and the LEO says' "Your car is too loud." My brother responds, "No, it isn't." The LEO says, "Start it up." "It's running." "Rev it up." You could hear the solid lifters over the whoosh from the exhaust. The LEO put his sunglasses back on, walked to his car, and took off without another word. I will take the 6HP loss just to have another encounter like that before I die. |

In our experience, short pipes or cutout systems usually make less horsepower than a full exhaust. If you are looking for more than just volume gains from them, you may be disappointed.

Do it for the sound alone.. It is that freaking awesome. I am on year 5 with self installed noweeds and have not run into a single problem yet.

Totally Agree... I installed NOWEEDS myself two months ago and couldn't be happier. No HP gains or losses noticeable but the sound is terrific! I constantly get comments of how "mean" she sounds. Just looking at other driver's facial expressions when I pull up to a light with open diverters. --> Priceless My only complaint is that it took 6 weeks from order to receive them... otherwise 100% satisfied
