Pulled the trigger toyos proxes r888r

I would love to get the R888R's, but I do DD mine sometimes and I couldn't stomach the high price and super fast wear. I went through the original GY's in less than 10k miles, I would imagine these won't last that long with the super soft compound and shallow tread depth.

Honestly, I don't know if a fair run has been given to the R888R in daily driving situations but I bet if you drove them like a regular car when you daily it and skipped peeling out/burnouts and whatever else, they'd probably get you pretty far.

Better, in pretty much every way but especially in lateral traction in which they're nearly as good as a good drag radial (And better than poorer drag radials). The NT01 is also pretty famous for tread splicing and blistering.

Me too with track days yet, they wear heavy on the inner part of the tire doing that ;o)...

OK, another update:

took the car out tonight and did a 50 mile trial run -- love how gripping these are. I set my tires to 28 psi cold and they are 32 to 33 when crusing -- good contact all the way around.

One thing I did notice -- a very slight 'hum' with going > 75 mph. I really tested it on our toll way where little traffic influenced whine (like super trucks will whiny tires I can hear).

Great grip, very reactive, heats up quick, little 'hum' over 75 mph...

You lost me at drag radial and lateral traction...?

For me the 888 and NT01R are road course tires. And lateral traction, in my head means lateral grip in the turns.

Curious about the issues you mention. I haven't run the NT01R on a heavy car but had amazing results on a 3200lb car. Significant time gains on a technical track (from 1.33 to 1.29 NT01R vs RE71r/RE11/ZII Star spec - yes all yielded 1.33-34 at the same track) At the time, it was the R888 that had the most issues. Maybe things have flipped around.

Looking forward to Hammdo's report after a track weekend - that's when the rubber really meets the road!

You're right. I have my Longitude and Latitude messed up. I should have said in longitudinal traction, in which they're about as good as a drag radial. Worth noting we're talking about R888Rs and not the older R888.

Yes definitely understand that 888 vs 888r, hence my piqued interest. I discarded the notion of using the 888's long ago because of issues they were well known to have.

Not yet. The weather here sucks a$$. Supposed to snow this week! So that will put me about two weeks out (wait till salt gets off the roads etc).

On a side note. I have around 7700 miles and my goodness I wold say have 40% tread left maybe? Seem to be in good condition but I didn’t drive them that hard. I should be able to get two years out of these with light driving an an occasional race And hard driving here and there. Excited to get them mounted.

And yes I heard about the humm sound. Seems to be a common report on the tires.

Track day at Eagles Canyon with the Toyos. Day started in the lower 40s. These puppies stick after the warm up lap! They planted my car and allowed me to put down the power! My instructor, who drove with me last time, said it ‘literally transformed the car’. We had a ball pushing the car. Max temps today 55°. Can’t imagine how these will do when it gets warmer!

Beyond please - so was my instructor... he even bumped me up a class based on how I did today... really happy...

So the toyos are great tires for track and daily driving? over the Eagle F1 SS tires.
