170*F T-stat?

Ever hear of a 170*F T-stat for an LS3? When I bought this car the previous owner told me it had a 170*F T-stat. The car runs pretty rock solid regardless of ambient temperature at 174-178*F, so I accepted this as fact. The more I've spent time on this site and in the LSx world the more I'm lead to think it's probably a 160*F T-stat, which is far more common.

I'm happy with how it acts - 175*F is about the minimum threshold for engine temperature without adding undo wear. Oil temp runs right around 210*F when warmed up under cruising conditions, which is spot on. The car is tuned for the T-stat, it cycles the fans when sitting still to keep it under 180*F on all but the hottest of days. Never have seen the coolant over 185*F.

If this is a 160*F stat it must settle out quite a bit higher than the stat rating. I guess that makes sense as every car I've had usually runs about +10-15 over the T-Stat value. Just curious if some of you guys with 160*F stats can comment on the coolant temps your cars settle at.

Concur. I have the 160*, and I'm usually right in the neighborhood of 175-180.

170* is better though. It's just enough to keep you closed loop most of the time and still keep the crisp throttle response in higher ambient temps.

They have a 174 if anyone wanted a compromise between stock and 160.
