NJ Inspection questions
I have a custom exhaust plan in mind. It will consist of deleting the rear catalytic converters.
Will I have a problem with inspection if I go through with this? Or should I leave the rear cats on? The 2 front cats will still be there... Please let me know asap because I am doing this setup in 3 days... |

Niko, you know I just moved back from Cali to NJ, and went through the drive in inspection station with Tint, Long Tubes, no rear cats & hollowed out front cats. Was there for 10 minutes tops, 8 of those minutes were spent thanking the workers for telling me how bad my car was, I have no idea what they did but inspections sure have changed in the 2 years I was in Cali...Got a 5 year sticker |

I thought in NJ they only cared about the exhaust now. I wonder how this will turn out. I dropped my car off at IDEALG this morning

Niko, from what I saw they don't stick the pipe up the exhaust anymore, they plug right into the OBD-II port and you're allowed 1 error message to pass. I don't have any cats at all, except for 2 hollowed out shells over my cat delete, and I was literally out of there in 5 minutes with a 5 year sticker, same with the Tahoe, except I do have cats on that. But they don't care about tint,, lights, etc...You should be fine

then I should be fine because I still have those 2 cats up at the front. Sounds good to me

Take it from me I work at the inspection station your cars do not get inspected until they are 5 years old so given the fact that the 5th gen is 2010 it will not be inspected until 2015 you will just be given a new car dealer sticker. Once it is 5 model years old it will get an emmisions inspection which is just an obd test computer will make sure your check engine light is not on and all your sensors read ready. The inspector will visually pass you for cats as long as we can see that the cats are there. If we don't see a cat you will fail for tampering.

As the first deliveries for the 2010 started in April 2009 we'll start seeing inspections in April 2014 as our four year + one year extension stickers expire - I'm up on May 22, 2014...
Not expecting any issues...

Tjd24 When u go in they will extend you an extra year. If u want you can go in now and they will swap your sticker to a may 2015 since it has to be 5 model years old.

Once I get the 2014 registration mailing I'll get it inspected which would then be good for two years....
