A very important facet of the advancement of technology, moving forward as we come to grips with the power of the 'Information Age' that we find ourselves in, is going to be corporate transparency. We people who aren't enjoying the most obvious economic benefits of these technologies, or writing the laws that dictate the limitations and boundaries for these technologies, are becoming more connected to each other on a daily basis through the advents of the internet and social media. Whether or not what we experience through these venues is true is a topic for another debate. The companies pushing these technologies do not only have a moral obligation to communication the truth of their interests and what opportunities they might provide to their consumers, but a critical opportunity to take advantage of the fact that consumers are more well-informed (or at least have more access to information) than ever before. It would serve these company's interests to share as much information as possible about what it is that they do or plan to do with the information that they collect and the products that they produce. In short, I don't think that the collection of information is problematic but I do think that companies using that information without notifying its subjects of their true intentions is shortsighted and insidious.
