It's nice having a car that doesn't have to launch hard to get low 1/4 mile times. Less strain on the drivetrain and more reliable. Seen plenty of Subarus break on the line.

When it comes to winter/snowboarding trip cars, I'd take a Subaru over almost anything.
I don't know how many sti's you'll be passing mid-track with GM stage 2. . . aren't the s2 cobalts mid 13s cars at best?

my friend has a wrx sti, the new 2011 one. we got up to about 90mph and stayed right with each other... it of course had a much better take launch, but other than that i was pretty stoked to stay with him.

WRX wins down low because of AWD, SS walks up top because of hp.

stock for stock the wrx or sti have the ss beat, ( cobalt ). More HP, more TQ, extra gear, ( STI ) awd, etc... I like the cobalts for a good street tuner, my GF has a wrx, an 07, and there plenty quick. Point be knowen, the WRX is a faster 0-60 runner than the STI is even with a 40 HP defecit, less weight, and one less gear to pull...

IIRC, a base Cobalt SS/TC pulled a 13.5. I'm sure the stage 2 Cobalts could pull low 13s in the right conditions.

There is no stage two for the ss/turbocharged, only the ss/supercharged which is a low 14 second car @ 100 stock at the very best. I doubt they're going to pick up a full second and 4mph with a slight pulley drop and a gmpp tune/injectors. The LNF is a totally different animal than the lsj.

Oh, I just assumed there would was one offered for the TC and I didn't know you were talking about the SC versions. But yeah, I doubt the SC version could knock off a second with those mods.

No. It will take alot mor for a stage two superchaged cobalt to run that time. My buddie had a stage two with an intake and exhaust and the car was dead even with my cobalt ss/tc stock.

I used to have a modded 2004 Mitsu Evolution 8 and Id say from a dig the Suby would have it IF it is launched correctly the AWD will bog the car unless reved pretty high. But with a stock turbo it will lose power pretty quick.

Now a Mitsu EVO might be a better candidate they tend to make more WHP and is MUCH cheaper and easier to mod then subys (at least anything 06 and older) Evo's you can flash the factory ECU (no aftermarket needed) and seem to get larger gains per mod then subys (with a dyno tune). Alot of Evo guys used to have subys but sold them and never looked back.

With the 8, they're a drivers race stock. Some people just don't know what to do with subarus and get ripped off by cobb. There is free software available for flashing and all you need is a tactrix cable to open source flash the ECU. For under $500 you could have a stage 2 sti making around 300awhp, 330wtq if you choose to go with a cheaper catless downpipe. With a walboro 255, some injectors and e85 you can make around 350whp, 400awtq. It's all about how you approach it. The 9 is definitely a bit quicker stock and lightly modified blow both the 8 and sti away. The 9 having a bigger turbo is also a huge plus for modding. They can make some crazy stock turbo #'s. A stock evo 9 will be a good run for an ls3 in anything but a roll race.

my 8 only had a 3" down pipe, 3" no name cat less exhaust, a cheap 75.00 china ebay intercooler, a stock 9 turbo, 272 cams, manual boost controller and a recirc BOV. I made 330ish AWHP and I think 350 AWTQ after a tune by switzer perf in ohio. And it was a veeeery safe tune and a nasty hot 98 deg day when making the pulls IC was hot.

An Evo 9 would get absolutely annihalated by an LS3 Camaro in anything other than an 1/8th mile race. Its slower in the 1/4, and after the 1/4 mile the LS3 would walk it like its going backwards. We're talking 370WHP with excellent top end power vs. 240WHP with no top end power at all.

An IX puts down closer to 265awhp and weighs in at under 3300 lbs. With the AWD, they run 12's with someone that knows how to launch. 1.7 60's on stock tires can do that for you. You only need ~105 traps in an awd car to run 12's with a solid launch.
