OMG! Left without ordering my SS
I just got back from a local Chevy dealership (don't want to say their name at this time). My plans were to order a 1SS or 2SS/RS Victory Red with Cyber grey metallic stripes.
After a long wait (sales meeting, computer problems), I finally got to sit down with the sales manager. He did agree to sell me the car at MSRP (which is good), but what scared me was his comments about price. He kept telling me the base price for an SS was around $37,000.00. For the car I wanted, I would be looking at well over $40K. For 15 minutes or more I tried to tell him that the base price for the SS is around $30K. I even directed him (via the internet) to price sheets showing the break down of prices and options. He said he had a different price sheet (which he couldn't find - misplaced) that showed different prices for the Camaro. His remarks were "there's no way GM is going to sell the hottest car around for the price of an Impalla." I just wanted to get some sort of agreement (estimate) as to the total cost of the car. His "estimate" was a good $5k-$7K more than the car should cost. So I left and ask them to make some phone calls and get updated information about pricing, etc and then get back with me. After all of that, I was scared to place the order. To be honest, I really think the sales manager is just misinformed. But he is scaring away business by telling everyone the car cost a lot more than it really does. But he said he had 20 preorders already so you would think he would know the price of the car. So I'm in the process of contacting a different dealership in my area. And it will be interesting to see if the other dealer calls me back with accurate information on pricing. Update: Went to a different dealership (great experience). Roger Dean Chevy in Cape Coral Florida helped me out. I would definately recommend them. I'm now waiting delivery of a 2SS (changed my order from a 1SS) for MSRP. Last edited by SGOS252382; 02-08-2009 at 09:19 AM. |

He's not misinformed, there was never any price sheet that said 37,000 for a base SS.
He's just trying to con people into paying more than they should. Next dealer. |

And there we see the weakness of franchise laws. Easy enough to say move on to the next dealer, but what of people in rural areas? GM needs to have the ability to kick jerks like this out of business and hand the franchise over to someone with some ethics.

So the dealer says they have 20 pre-orders, and I'm sure he is not going to show you them. If all those people paid what they asked, using the lowest figure, that's 100k, just like that. Put them on the list.

My small town dealer since the 1930's has had the small town approach to selling. "You are obligated to buy from me!"
In the Internet world he still has not leaned that is not true........... |

Your dealer is an idiot. By demanding such a premium on a car worth barely 75% of the price, the dealer is basically asking you for a 25% bribe. It is good to see that your conscience kept you doing the right thing by going to someone with less greed and ignorance.

Yo Ject, I am getting the same color combo as you man. CGM with beige interior, but there is a possibility I may turndown the RS and just go straight to a 2SS.
