Z06 = Mid life crisis car

Often older guys buy it for $80,000+ and then post it on the corvette forums a year and a half later for $36,000 with about 1900 miles on it

I almost bought one a while back, glad I didnt know that I know I am having a kid. Great car, basically a super car for under $100,000

Yes. But let's be honest here. . How could he afford to purchase that car with no complaints? But can't afford a Shelby? . . Being the MSRP of a 07 Z06 was 69K. Zero options.

Chris said it well. If there were no Camaro I'd take that Shelby in a heartbeat. But I'm a Camaro guy to the core. Always have been. I do have an unbiased and objective realization though.
I believe it's not "just a brake upgrade", but "just a brake pad upgrade". Porsches are known to put race pads on their cars and are therefore prone to massive amounts of brake dust. I presume the GT500 pads are some inexpensive street pad.

It makes me wonder if the ZL1 will have more brake dust?

Sold a car, got a bonus. bought it used with 7k on the clock. car payments blow. I don't like them. If you want to give me 48k for my Z06 that should ofset the difference I will buy the shelby. ha ha.

Lol. I don't have money like that to spend. . All I am saying is. When you are buying a car of over 50K you don't need to argue about which is more. Being they are within a reasonable amount. . . If I were you, I'd simply save and purchase the better car of the two. Not the first one you can afford. . . Why pin yourself in that situation ever? . .

I'd guess it's gonna be at least a rotor and pad upgrade. Maybe even fluid and lines and cooling. Possibly even calipers.

But I am absolutely unfamiliar with the Shelby brake system.

They are 15" rotors and 6 piston brmemo calipers. Pad, fliods and lines is all it needs, (and should be done to any car that is serious about driving events anyways).

From my understanding the few "owners" that took it to the track just swapped the fluids.

It has 15" rotors, so I highly doubt it needs upgraded rotors. The ceramic ones are HORRIBLE for daily driving and take a while just to heat up to see any benefits. Then the $5000.00 average replacement costs would not be fun.

SS brake lines and Fluids should yield much better results. Cant win them all

Yes. I don't understand why this is an argument anyways. The Shelby won the braking tests, and won the track tests. So let's let that be that shall we? . . The guys who are going to track these cars will buy bigger brakes, tires, etc. . . Simple fact.

someone commented somewhere that the Mustangs that won the Grand Am just had different pads and fluids but everything else was stock Boss.

I guess you're a rich guy then. Good for you.

But for me, price most certainly is an argument. I know because I priced them both out and debated if I could justify the extra 10%+ for the gt500. It just doesn't make sense to me.

Here's how I think about it. The gt500 in the reviews has over 8k in performance options. And yet it will still need a brake mod to keep up with the zl1. Come on. Why would I spend that money?
