The Quit Smoking Support Thread

I figured we could use this. A lot of people are trying to get healthy for the new year including me!

So here we can support each other if you've quit and have advice post it here... If you or someone you know is quitting, sound off here.

What's your motivation to quit? Are you rewarding yourself?

For me it's almost $2k a year. Lot of Camaro mods! :party0048:

I'm really concerned about weight gain though :( anyone know how I can avoid that? I'm trying to LOSE weight.

I quit 5 months ago. I smoked for 15 years straight. The reason I quit was my first child was born and for my health. Plus the money I will save. The first 2 weeks were the hardest. U have to be a strong minded person for sure. I did it cold turkey and have not touched one since I quit. I did have a picture of a dead person with his chest cut open from lung cancer as a wallpaper and lock screen on my iPhone tho lol

Yeah, the weight gain is tough because you tend to pick up a sideline nibbling habit. I went to Walmart and got the bag of 300 Dum-Dum suckers. I think they are 5 calories a piece seemed to do the trick for the 1st month. Still am working on the extra lbs. that came out of nowhere. WTF!! But running season is right around the corner and they will be going bye-bye GOOD LUCK

If you're worried about gaining weight then you need to exercise. Buy an ab lounger, jumprope or an exercise bike. When you begin to crave a smoke or a snack do some exercises.

It's worked for me so far.

I can use my 5 pound hand weights to work on my arms in the office when I want to take a smoke break!

I don't smoke, never did. I know of a few friends that quit, and they just quit. Never smoked again and they did gain weight at first. I have a brother-in-law that quit over thirty years ago, unfortunately he is now on oxygen and will not get any better.:(

I have some dumbbells and a pull up bar in my office. They should come in handy over the next few weeks/months.

I began to sneak a smoke in 1978 at 14 years old and put the last one down cold turkey at 34 at years old by this time I was up to two backs a day and climbing.
I don't miss it at all and I hope to never pick it up again. Even when I go out to a bar or the casinos the smoke in the air really stinks up your outfit and as a smoker you don't even know it.
I had weight gain but it is well worth the trade everything taste better and I know everything smells better since I no longer smoke.

Good luck

I quit April 1st 2009. You're really not supposed to use more than one quit aid at a time, but for me I used the patch and lozenges for when I still got the urge. I cut the patch short after a while was just using lozenges then eventually sugar free candy. I had tried patch alone, lozenges alone, gum, cold turkey, chantix, just about everything and probably failed about 30 times before I was able to quit.
